A 22 - member mission of eye specialists from the USA were in SVG performing eye clinics and surgeries under the aupicies of the Lions Club of Kingstown-SVG during May 26 to Jun 1, 2018. The medical team was led by Dr. Eric Purdy, an ophtomologist, and included 3 ophtamologists, 4 optomotrists 2 EHT specialists and other professional related volunteers.

While in SVG the mission successfully performed some 86 eye surgeries at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), which included 2 corneal transplants, several cataract extractions and four Ear, Nose and Throat surgeries at no costs to the patients. Moreover, an esitmated 700 persons received free eye care services, as well as blood pressure and glucose monitoring, at clinics which were held at the designated medical facility within the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.

This is the 43rd year of the USA Mobile Medical Mission to St. Vincent, in partnership with the Lions Club and the Ministry of Health. The annual collaboration has facilitated numerous opthamological interventions for patients over the years. Additionally, the medical team has made several tangible donations including eye glasses to patients, machinery and medical supplies amounting to million of dollars to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The annual USA Eye Care Mobile Medical Mission was sponsored this year by Beacon Insurance for the third consecutive occasion and coordinated by Lion Raphie King.

On Saturday 24th February, 2018, club members met at the Sion Hill Clinic to distribute our 'Love Packages', which contain food items and toiletries. Although each year we mainly focus on the older indigent persons, this year we also embraced several single mothers.


District Governor Lion Sherwin Greenidge visited an important environmental project at the Bishops College. There he witnessed the handing over of agricultural implements to Form 1 Agriculture students by our Lion President.  This was done in the presence of the agricuture teacher at the school, the principal, Leo President and other Lions.
