Kitchener-Waterloo Community Spirit Lions Club was chartered on Feb 11, 1997, and incorporated in 1998. The Waterloo Lions Club sponsored the Club.
The Club is part of Lions MDA, District A15 in Ontario, Canada. It is located in the Region of Waterloo, (population 586,000), 90km (60 miles) west of Toronto, Ontario. The University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier University are two world-class universities located in the Region of Waterloo.

What's in a Name

 “Kitchener” “Waterloo” “Community Spirit” Lions Club
This is a rather unusual name for a Lions Club. The name of most clubs is only related to where the Club is located. At the time of the formation of our Club, there already were several “Kitchener” Lions Clubs and several “Waterloo” Lions Clubs. Also several of our original members lived in Kitchener and several in Waterloo. So it was decided to combine these twin cities' names with the name       “Kitchener-Waterloo”
The charter members were familiar with the local Lions Clubs helping the community, and several of these members were already involved in the community, so they were ready for an organization such as Lions. At that time, none of the other local clubs had lady members, so they were encouraged to form their own Lions Club, with both men and women.
“Community Spirit” is expressed as group activities in which community members choose to engage for the benefit of that community. So these words seemed just right to be part of their club name.

Branch Club
Our branch club is the "University of Waterloo Lions Club Branch".  The membership is made up with students from the University of Waterloo. They started in 2022. The initial focus of the Club is on eyeglass collection and recycling. They are looking forward to raising funds for a dog guide.
