The Lions motto is “We Serve”. We have several exciting and long-standing projects our club gets involved with. From local projects like Food Baskets project to regional-wide efforts such as Walk-n-Knock, our club puts a lot of energy and enthusiasm into the many critically important and rewarding projects we are part of.

Chain Gang

Date: All home football games for the La Center Wildcats.
Description: Another long-standing tradition of the La Center Lions is providing the chain gang crew for all home football games. This is a very fun event and the community is always appreciative of this service.

Christmas Tree Decorating

Date: November 30th, 2018
Description
This a fun and quick project that takes a bit of organizing. It occurs the Friday night prior to the Christmas Bazaar at the high school. So if you have a decorating flair, this is the project for you!

Easter Egg Hunt

Date: March 31st, 2018
Description
This is one of the longest standing events we do as a club as well as probably being one of the most fun.  Seeing all those children smile is worth all the work and effort of organizing this event.

Flags for First Graders

Date: May 5th, 2018.

Description
Putting a flag, base and information about our nation’s flag into the hands of a 1st grader can have a long-lasting in their lives. This is a region-wide effort and is a brand new project for our club to lead. Walk-n-knock got started in the same way as a simple idea that makes a big difference.

Food Baskets

Date: December 2018

Description
This effort is one of the most rewarding projects we take on as a club. Purchasing, organizing and distributing food baskets to those in need is a terrific way of serving our community. It’s usually a lot of fun too!

Scholarships

Date: To be determined.
Description: Annually our club awards scholarships to graduating seniors at La Center High School.  The committee works with school counselors to generate, evaluate and select finalists for these scholarships.

Walk-n-Knock

Date: December 1st, 2018
Description: Walk-n-knock is a long standing county-wide food drive. There are many opportunities to help out with this effort.

Fundraisers

The Lions motto is “We Serve”. We have several exciting and long-standing projects our club gets involved with. Many of these projects requires financial support. Therefore, as a club we initiate many fundraising activities throughout the year to support our service projects.

Fireworks Booth

Date: The last week of June through July 4th.
Description
The fireworks booth is the club’s biggest and most important fundraising activity of the entire year. It is critically important and allows the club to fund most of the efforts throughout the rest of the year.

Fun 5K Walk/Run

Date: June 9th, 2018 @ 8:30 am

Description: This is the second annual Fun 5K Run/Walk in support of the Jump-Start Backpack Program at the school. It is a straight forward event that is sure to be lots of fun… thus the name! There will be a number of “day of event” tasks that will need helpers, but otherwise the project is not that demanding.

Fallibration

Date: October 2018 – Exact Date TBD

Description
The fall carnival, also known as “Fallibration” occurs prior to Halloween and is put on by the La Center PTO. The PTO relies on Lions to run the “jail” as well as provide other fun activities for children.

Our Days Booth

Date: Saturday of Our Days
Description
Do you like rootbeer floats, sunshine and a carnival atmosphere? If so, this is the event for you! This is a fun annual tradition and one that puts our club front and center in our community.

Pancake Breakfast

Date: March 31st, 2018.

Description: We provide pancake breakfast in conjunction with the Easter Egg Hunt.

White Cane

Date: September 28th, 2018

Description: Each year the Northwest Lions Foundation hosts the White Cane Days fundraiser with the help of Lions Clubs throughout Washington and Northern Idaho. The goal is to help blind children and adults in the Northwest regain their sight and self reliance.

The programs supported by White Cane Days are:

  • Lions Health Screening Unit: Provides free vision check-ups for more than 30,000 people annually, most of them school-aged children who may not have access to them otherwise.
  • Patient Care Grants: Provide funding for sight-related medical procedures and special equipment for blind children and adults in our communities who could not otherwise afford them.
  • Project Support Grants: These grants help support vision programs in local communities, like low vision services that help people adapt to blindness.
