Lahore Liberty Lions Club (Wazir Begum) T.B Ward

Lahore Liberty Lions Club (Wazir Begum) T.B Ward at Gulab Devi Hospital was built by the members of this Club in 1976-1977. This was the Club’s first permanent project. It was basically planned and built to eradicate Tuberculosis, which was and is still very common disease amongst the poor and the downtrodden citizens of our community. The cost of this was around Rs. 600,000/- at that time.

Since then, this ward has been female TB ward looking after women and children who are suffering from TB and other chest diseases. This TB ward comprises of main hall/ward with two verandas covered by wired mesh. It also has doctor’s office, a dispensing and a nursing room with attached bathroom. For the patients the ward has recreation room and a fully equipped kitchen. It also has four washrooms and two toilettes.

Beside all the basic furnishings, the members have also furnished this ward with air/dessert coolers, color T.V., electric water cooler, gas heaters, fans and other necessities for the comfort of the patients.

Since the establishment of this ward the members of the Club have been fully involved with this project. This is clearly evident through their active participation in the maintenance of these wards. This in turn insures that the poor patients are constantly provided with the basic comforts, which we all know that they are entitled too.

From time to time these wards have been renovated and major maintenance’s have carried out by the members of the Club. This is clearly evident from the renovations carried out by the members in recent years as listed below: -

  • Year 1979: the ward needed a little maintenance, which was under taken.
  • Year 1985: Major maintenance works were performed.
  • Year 1996: A color television was installed and renovations were made.
  • 1998: Rooftop of the ward had started seeping after the rainy days of January 98; the ward rooftop was fully refurbished. It was completely insulated and water proofed. Further more, all around the outer walls four feet soling was laid to minimize water logging around the ward. Wire mesh was erected during this renovation.
  • Year 2000: Complete renovation through repairs and white washing in this April has instilled a new life in our prized project. Complete sewerage system was pulled out and replaced.
  • 2016: Established a state of the art Nursing Centre along with other renovation. Also installed a Water Filteration Plant in collaboration with Coke Pakistan.
