Tree of Love
Every December the LOW Lions place a tree at the Wilderness Center at the intersection of Rtes 3 and 20 and decorate it with red and white lights.  This is the Tree of Love and is the centerpiece of the Lions’ campaign to raise funds to be shared entirely among 2 or 3 needy families in Orange County who are facing serious financial challenges at Christmastime, especially those with children.  These families  very often do not have resources to buy even small presents for their children or to purchase the traditional Christmas food.  Families in need are identified through the Wilderness Food Pantry, by Lake of the Woods Church, Orange County Social Services and so on.

Donations to the Tree are solicited in the memory of donors’ loved ones or friends who have passed away or to honor individuals for kindness, generosity and support given to the donors who have come through trying circumstances with the honorees’ help.  Red lights represent those to be honored and white lights those who have passed on.   Donations should be for $5 or more for each person named to be remembered or honored – donations for greater amounts are strongly encouraged and gratefully appreciated.

Fund-raising runs through the months of October and November.  The Tree of Love will be dedicated on Saturday December 12 at 2 p.m. by Pastor Tom Schafer of Lake of the Woods Church and will remain lit in the hours of darkness until the early days of January.

The Lions are very grateful to Jay Meadows, President of Meadows Farm, and his wife for donating the Tree, which means that 100% of the money raised will go to needy families.

Donations are made using the Tree of Love donation form.  Checks are preferred and are to me made out to “Lake of the Woods Foundation”.  The foundation is a 501-C organization and donations may be tax-deductible.
