Lion Gary Weise recently gave the invocation during the Lawton/Ft. Sill Special Olympics awards ceremony! This is when the Special Olympians are presented with Athletic Letters by their schools for competing in the annual Track and Field Games held on Ft. Sill, where Lion Gary also gave the invocation as a part of the opening ceremonies. Thanks for all that you do for the community, Lion Gary!

Our club is in the process of purchasing eye glasses for a disabled man. I will invite this man and his sponsor to meet with us once he has his new glasses! More to follow on this and thanks to EVERYONE who pitched in for the glasses!

We will soon be welcoming a new member! Felicia Johnson of CGI will be joining our club next month. She will be formerly inducted at one of the parent club's meetings in June. More to follow on that. Let's welcome Soon-To-Be Lion Felicia to our notorious crew of roaring "On-Line" Lions!

We celebrated Earth Day on Friday, April 20th, on the Cameron University campus. For the fourth year in a row, we donated a tree to Cameron University for Earth Day. Lion of the Year Joe Wotring once again headed up this project and did his usual wonderful job! Thanks to our club, there are now three thriving Oklahoma Eastern Redbud trees around Cameron's Aggie Gym. We were especially honored to have Oklahoma Lions District 3-L Governor, Ealmer Klippel, on-hand with us for this annual Earth Day event!   All of the club members that were able to attend got the chance to meet DG Ealmer. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will find a link to DG Ealmer's web site (along with links to our parent club's web site and to the Oklahoma Lions Newspaper). Also taking part in the event was the District Governor Elect, Vice District Governor Wes Williams, who is also a member of the parent club. Glen Pinkston, VP for Finance and Business, Robert Henefield, and Janet Williams represented Cameron. Check out the Cameron University press release in the Earth Day 2012 section (on the left side of this home page). Below is a picture taken of the Earth Day event. We Serve!

WHITE CANE DAY!

We, along with our parent club, took part in the annual White Cane Day fundraising activity on Saturday, April 21st, at the Wal-Mart on Sheridan. The event took place from 10am till 2pm. There were two shifts, one from 10am till noon, and the other from noon till 2pm. We handed out balloons and stickers, and accepted donations which will go towards scholarships and other community projects in the Lawton/Ft. Sill area. Lion of the Year Joe Wotring brought out his Boy Scouts from Troop 175 and they were a big help! Lion Joe put a lot of effort into both the Earth Day and White Cane Day activities. He brought the tables, bottled water, the Boy Scouts, and the pizza!  Everyone had a good time! It was a little windy, but it was a really nice day. Below are pictures from White Cane Day!  Photo's are courtesy of Lions Ray Polk and Vivian Silverstrim:

A great quote from Helen Keller, who played an important part in the history of Lions International:

"Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves."  - Helen Keller

Our Liaison from the parent club is the honorable Lion Ray "Master of Ceremonies" Polk.  Lion Ray is a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major. He's a great Lion, a founding member of our parent club, friend and role model!
