                                    “Sight Is Beautiful” Poster Contest
                      Sponsored by District 50, Lions of Hawaii & Leeward Oahu Lions
                                    Oct.10, 2023- Feb. 2, 2024(noon)

 

       

             Division K-2 Prize                                          Division 3 - 6 Prize

OVERVIEW

1. The contest is open to all students in grades Kindergarten through 6 attending public or private          schools.

2. Judging criteria or standards are attached.

3. Contest runs from Oct. 10, 2023 – Feb. 2,2024 (noon).
4. Deadine: All posters due by Feb. 2, 2024(noon). Contact your school liaison for pick-up at
   contact's email or call contact's phone number
5. Students’ work will be evaluated in 7 divisions by grade level: Division K (Kindergarten), Division 1 (Gr. 1),Division 2 (Gr. 2), Division 3 (Gr. 3), Division 4 (Gr. 4), Division 5 (Gr. 5), Division 6 (Gr. 6)
Prizes: Each Division (K-6) winner will be awarded prizes.

Prizes for Statewide winners are:
6. 1st place posters in each of the 7 divisions will compete at the Zone Level for the privilege of going on to Statewide judging. The following prizes will be awarded to the state winners in each division:
First Place . . . $100 cash award
Second Place. . . . $ 75 cash award
Third Place . . . $ 50 cash award
Fourth Place . . . $ 25 cash award
7. All posters become the property of the sponsoring Lions Club to do with as it sees fit. Every effort should be made to exhibit posters at public places, including schools.


RULES: All posters must meet the following guidelines or be disqualified:

1. The words “Sight Is Beautiful” must be on the face of the poster. No other words or letters or              numbers can appear on the face of the poster.

2. No computer-generated or adult-generated images or words can appear on the face of the                poster. Poster must be the work of the participant.

3. No paste-on or other types of attachments are allowed on the face of the poster. This includes          such things as glitter, foam, cut-out items, etc. Student may use crayon, paint, markers, pencils,        etc.
4. Poster size must not exceed 12” x 18”.

5. The student’s name, grade, school, teacher’s name, and sponsoring Lions Club must be                    recorded on the back of the poster in the UPPER LEFT CORNER (defined by position as you            turn the poster over from its viewing “orientation/position.”) Adult-generated labels or printing              may be used to record these.

Standards for Judging

Division K [Kindergarten], Division 1 [Grade 1] and Division 2 [Grade 2]
Originality . . . . . . 40 points
Theme (How well theme is expressed). . . 20 points
Color. . . . . . . . 20 points
Composition (How attractive is the poster). . . 10 points
Neatness. . . . . . . 10 points
Generally, children at these levels are still trying to acquire motor skills. Much of their work is experimentation with media and tools. Thus, their products are largely experimental, not representation.Their colors are usually bright and unadulterated; not much mixing. There may be unfilled open spaces. Their sense of proportion differs from the adults in what is important top them is enlarged. A good piece is simple,free and large.


Division 3 [Grade 3] and Division 4 (Grade 4]


Originality. . . . . . . 40 points
Theme (How well theme is expressed). . . 30 points
Color. . . . . . . . 10 points
Composition (How attractive is the poster). . . 10 points
Neatness. . . . . . . 10 points
At this level, theme will not be easily recognized. It is difficult for children to comprehend this concept. Children at this age group also tend to use bright colors.


Division 5 [Grade 5] and Division 6 (Grade 6]
Originality. . . . . . . 35 points
Theme (How well theme is expressed). . . 35 points
Art Media Technique 9type of media, how used. . 10 points
Composition (How attractive is the poster). . . 10 points
