Skip is reportadly on vacation, so your friendly neighborhood webmaster/secretary has stepped in with a quick What's What for September.

Leszek and Dan M. both have birthdays this month, so come to a meeting and buy them a drink.

Gordon has lined up Hal Palmer of the Pioneer Lions and the current Multiple District Council Chairman to speak about the district, the council, and our role in the big picture.  Come on down to the Carriage and hear what he has to say.

We have a new member, Sean Welsh, sponsored by Dan Norman.  Come on down and meet him.  Bill Lammi is our other newest member, and if you haven't met him yet come by a meeting and say hi.

AUGUST 2011

BIRTHDAYS THIS MONTH AND EXPECTING A BIG GIFT FROM THE MEMBERSHIP

Well no Monticello Lion  entered this exciting world in August so save that gift for next month!

MEETING DATES AND PROGRAMS

The next regular meeting is September 12th. Mark it down and show up. Lion Gordon always has an interesting program  for us.

HIGH LITES OF THE PAST MONTH

We have another new member, Sean Welch. Be sure to introduce yourself and make him feel welcome.

Our secretary, Lion EriK, has updated our web page for us. Note the attached address.  (Hopefully if you are reading this you found it)

http://www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/longviewmonticello/index.php

There is a good picture of a lot of us right on the front page. Better tune in if you want to know how handsome you look. Thanks Erik for being a dedicated Lion,  and bring us into the modern electronic world.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

King Lion Howard  needs Lion to look after next year's Coffee Stop. This is a good chance for one of our  newer members to help with our fund raising. The coffee stop makes about a $1000 dollars (or almost 5-10% of our total club income). We do many good things in our community with this money. Lion Gordon has been in charge for many years, and will be a good hand in helping someone to take over.

District Governor Crawford Spens has put together his visitation schedule. Being the "Big Kauna" requires lots of visibility and meetings. We need to go with him to as many of the meetings as possible to show are support him and help keep energized. His schedule has been forwarded to you. Please volunteer to go with him occasionally.

JULY 2011

The Board met Monday, July 19th and approved the Donation Budget for next year. We are planning an income from paper collections, coffee stop, and miscellaneous of $13,000 . The Donation Budget is $12,900. We are a good service organization - we give what we earn away to needy projects. Our big money maker is the Paper Collection that we deliver to Norpac . Norpac pays us $115 per ton of paper. We have four steady members on the paper crew and several willing to fill for a total of about 8-10. If you can lend a hand that would be great as the 4-6 regulars can get tired at their age. :)

MEETING DATES AND PROGRAMS

There will be no meeting  Monday the 25th.  We are going to attend the Black Bears vs. Kitsap Blue Jackets baseball game Thursday the 21st. That replaces the regular meeting. Play ball and bring a perspective member. Be sure to introduce yourself to any prospective member that attends. Show them who we are and help encourage the them to become a member.

Our first meeting in August is on the 8th. Lion Gordon always has a good program and keeps us informed of things going on in the County.

HIGH LITES OF THE PAST MONTH

Year End and Installation of new officers happened at our June 20th meeting. We had a good meeting .A visiting Past District Governor installed our new officers. Shortly thereafter in Seattle at the National Lions Club Convention, Lion Crawford Spens was installed as the new District Governor for District 19G. Wish him well when you see him or send him a congratulation note.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We had good participation at our Coffee Stop at the North Bound Toutle Rest Area July 16th and 17th. Lion Skip Dunlap and Lion Bill Lammi set a new record for the least amount of money collected in a four hour shift ($7.20). The good news is that the total for the 48hours (2:00 AM Saturday to 2:00AM Monday) was $1029. However those 2 to 6AM shifts are "kind a slow". We had some very good help from non club members who filled in the schedule for us:

            Barbara Alpaugh

            Janice Dockstetter

            Audrey Walker

            Abby Bray

            LaVerne Zimmerman

            Gayle Obermeyer

Thanks to all for a successful Coffee Stop!

The District 19G Spring Conference will be held at the Kelso Red Lion Friday and Saturday, May 20th and 21st. Vice District Governor, Lion Crawford Spens will be installed as District Governor. Let us all show in support of him - the first Monticello Lion to be elected to such an exalted position!

HIGH LITES OF THE PAST MONTH

Lion Erik Guttormsen won the 25 cent dice game with five of a kind in one roll. I don’t think he got rich but he did get “Glory”.

Lion Dan Norman showed off some more of his many talents keeping the Lion’s Paper truck running. Apparently our truck had some serious starter problems. Lion Dan came to the rescue. We all thank him for that!

We have been “unknowingly” furnishing a homeless man a place to sleep this past month in the St. Stephens paper collection box. He has since moved to better quarters at the Community House.  You just never know when or how a Lions Club will help some one out.

Our club spellers had a good time at the Altrusa Spell-ebration last Friday night. King Lion Bob, Lions Jerry and Lions Skip represented the Monticello Lions. We were doing fine until they started giving us  foreign language words like skomakawai, faja, and other strange sounds . Well, we will be better prepared next year-ya, you betcha.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lion EriK is looking for a replacement as club secretary. He will be giving it up for family reasons so some one must come forward or we will be without  a secretary this July . The following is what Lion EriK sent to us all in an email

“I am looking for a secretary for the 2011-2012 Lions year (July-June) and ideally at least a couple years as the position works much better when it doesn't change hands every year.  The job doesn't take too much time, and I will of course train, help organize and hand over all the needed info as well as be the fill in on nights you can’t be there.  And the biggest bonus, the club covers your meal at every regular meeting."

In addition, Gordon is still looking for a future replacement for program chair and a current replacement for Coffee Stop chair, which Dan N. has been filling in nicely.
