Madison Area Lions Club

Your ticket to helping others in our community.

Who are the Lions?

As Lions, We Serve! Lions Clubs International (LCI) was founded in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones. In his opinion, a club should do more than promote the business of its members; it should service the community. He chose the name Lions Club because he was convinced that the lion stood for strength, courage, fidelity and vital action. We call these characteristics Lionism.

Lions Clubs are in 205 countries serving in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disasters, and in schools; wherever the is a need, you will find a Lion. Because we are local, we can serve the unique needs of our communities. And because we're global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders. Look at what we have done for the Madison Area.

Club History

The Madison Area Lions Club is a chapter of Lions Clubs International (LCI). The club received its charter from Lions Clubs International on April 27, 2021. Since then the club has developed programs supporting vision programs for children and elderly, diabetes, youth leadership programs, and support for our schools.

The Madison Area Lions Club mission statement is to serve the Madison Community by providing vision support to youth and elderly adults and supporting other programs designed to help those in the Madison Area.  Although many of our programs are focused on those areas, every member can choose an interest area and build community programs to support their interest.  Club members are ready to help other members achieve their service orianted goals.

The Madison Area Lions Club received recognition as the Alabama Multiple District 34 Roderick Beddow, Sr. “Outstanding Club of the Year” for 2021-2022. What an honor for our first full year of service.

Why Join the Madison Area Family Lions Club

Because we serve the Madison and Huntsville communities. Lions Club International conducted a global survey of nearly 8,000 members in 2012. By a wide margin, the No. 1 reason members gave for joining the Lions is “to serve the community where I live.” Check out our Club Projects page to see what we have going on in our communities.

Help Us Serve Others

One of the club’s on-going fundraisers is the sale of high-quality mops and brooms. The sale of mops and brooms helps fund many of the club’s programs. The club offers several different styles from household brooms and mops to large push broom. Brooms range in price from $12 to $22 and mops sale for $7 or $11 depending on the size of the mop. Anyone wishing to support these programs by purchasing a mop or broom can contact Luke Hunter at MadisonLionsMB@gmail.com to arrange purchase and pickup.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
