Medfield Lions Team with MHS Community Teens for Fall Clean-Up Day

On Saturday November 21st, the Medfield Lions under the direction of John Carey and Steve Kramer coordinated a volunteer rake leafing group of eight Lions and some 25 Medfield High School Community Teens. The group armed with rakes, bags, leaf blowers and plenty of spirit fanned out over Medfield helping eleven families who needed assistance cleaning up their yards. The weather on Saturday was great for this worthy event and the enthusiasm of the Lions and the Teens made the day a great success. To top it off Greg Kay of Shady Tree Landscaping volunteered his “Releaf” operation to come by with their vacuum truck, which made short work of the curbside leaf piles. One of the Families helped was Kim Summers who said ‘It felt very much like how life should be where neighbors team up to help those who can't tackle something on their own--I loved seeing my son work with these groups and learn the value of giving and receiving.  Their efforts proved our town is a very special place indeed!” The project was the first of many that the two groups hope to coordinate together in providing community service to our local community.

Lions have a reputation as the “Doers” in their community. The Lions motto, “We Serve”, is exemplified in the many tangible ways Lions help to make the world a better place, both at home and abroad. Our resources are directed to the needs of our community, prevention and cure of eye disease and diabetes awareness. Some of the Medfield programs we support with funds and our time include: Home Committee, Food Cupboard, scholarships for high school graduates, Animal Shelter 2000, Christmas party and summer picnic for seniors and the Lions Speech and Peace Poster contests for students. Also, outside of the Medfield community, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Lazarus Fund - Organ Donation, Seeing Eye Dog and Guide Dog training, collection of eyeglasses for reuse and Lions Clubs International Foundation.
