Lions International is promoting four Missions for Lions: Youth, Vision, Hunger, and Environment. Here is how the Mesa SSV Lions are meeting the challenge for each.

Youth

Mentoring Students - Lions spend time at Brinton Elementary school mentoring students needing additional help in reading.

Arizona Lions Camp Tatiyee - Arizona Lions have created this camp to help empower individuals with special needs. Paid staff and volunteers provide support in a rich environment away from home in the White Mountains, enjoying and activities and meeting new friends, all FREE OF CHARGE.

Vision

Every year, the Mesa Sunland Springs Village Lions Club is proud to administer eye exams to pre-schoolers in the Mesa area.  In 2015 we checked the vision of 800 youngsters. In the photo above, left to right, David Stelzer is preparing to test a student while Nicki Krafft, Karen Torgersen, and David Torgersen are handling the paperwork.

Hunger and Environment

Apache Junction Food Bank - Lion volunteers work weekly at the food bank, sorting and distributing food for families in need.  Mesa SSV Lions recycle plastic bags to be re-used in bagging groceries at the Food Bank. Torgie Torgersen had several to deliver following a recent meeting.

Recyling - the bane of the modern environmental movement. And look at all the "stuff" hauled away, items donated by SSV Residents that did not sell at their garage sale day.

To fund these and other activities, members volunteer their time to collect funds from the public at the Fry's Marketplace on Signal Butte Road.
