A need to serve....

The Milan Lions Club was established by charter on April, 20, 1960 by the members of the Milan Civic Club along with local community members met with Lions from the Lawrenceburg and Versailles clubs to form a Milan Lions Club.

Their first project was the July 4th barbeque and fireworks. There were rides, a ballgame, and a parade.  The monies raised from this first event went to help the Milan High School Band with uniforms.

This dedication to the young people in the community has grown to include

  • four (4) - $500 scholarships to Milan High Graduates
  • helping kids to attend the Lions Law Camp
  • raising funds for low vision learning equipment
  • Providin dictionaries to every Milan student going to 6th grade
  • Sponsoring our local Boy Scout troop
  • Sponsor the Library’s Summer Reading Program
  • Volunteer to sell tickets for the team at every Milan home basketball game
  • And provided funding for many educational and sports activities.

We also hold a special “Night-Out” every July to honor those couples who have been married 50 years or more and have their anniversary listed on the Milan Lions Community Calendar.

Yes, Lions = eyeglasses

It also means visiting other clubs, working with them on projects, attend meetings and conventions.  Most of all, Milan Lions = help to the Milan Community and have a lot of fun while doing it!

Milan Lions give annual free eye screenings to all local school children and help provide eyeglasses where needed.  This past school year your Milan Lions helped to screen over 2290 students in 12 school systems.

Enjoy the annual Milan 4th of July Parade? That's us.

Like the Christmas decorations around town?  Yep, us too.

Attended the Ripley County, Indiana Fair? All Ripley County Lions Clubs help here.

Have fun at the annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Versailles State Park?

We were there too and some of us even jumped in!

Sound like fun?

This year alone we were able to help a Milan student study overseas, start a Milan Girls Basketball Summer Camp, and recognized not just one Eagle Scout, but FOUR from just the Milan area.

The Lions “Pride” of Milan currently stands strong with forty (40) members who range in age from 22 to 94!  Our club welcomes anyone who might wish to join or just find out more to attend one of our monthly meetings.  Come be a part of the Pride of Milan!

Just a note:

Fully 85% of all monies raised stay in our local community with the balance supporting our  Indiana District and State Projects:

Lions Club International Foundation:

Lionism began in 1917, when a young Chicago insurance agent, Melvin Jones, presented to a group of separate business clubs the idea of consolidating the individual clubs into one strong influential club, called the  International Association of Lions Clubs.  Their goal was to help the community and to serve humanity with emphasis on serving the blind.

Code of Ethics

Colors:

In 1917, the colors of purple and gold were selected by Lions International as their official colors.  To Lions, purple represents loyalty to country, friends, to one’s self and to the integrity of mind and heart.  It is the color of strength, courage and dedication to a cause.  Gold symbolizes sincerity of purpose, liberality in judgment, purity in life and generosity in mind, heart and purse towards mankind.

Who Are Lions?

Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world. The 1.35 million members of our volunteer organization in 206 countries and geographic areas are different in many ways, but share a core belief – community is what we make it.
