On April 17, 1946 seventeen men met to discuss the formation of a Lions club in Monett. Interest was great enough that the club was formed on April 23, 1946 with a group of 24 men interested in serving their community. By the time of the charter night banquet on May 24, 1946 the club officially chartered with 36 charter members.  The Monett Lions Club was formed with the help of the Neosho Lions.
