Our Beautiful Mooloolaba Beach

On Monday night 11th July the Lions Club of Mooloolaba held their 37th Installation of Office-Bearers for the 2011-2012 year, and the Lioness Club held their 9th Installation of Office-bearers

Lions out-going President Den Farrow handed over to incoming President Lion Fred Smedley and his new Board.

Outgoing Lioness Marie Horan was re-elected for a second term as President of the Lioness Club.

The Toast to Lions International was delivered by Fiona Simpson MP, the State Member for Maroochydore.

Also present were Councillors Ted Hungerford, Chris Thompson and Christian Dickson and his wife Karlee, Representatives from other Lions and Lioness Clubs and family and friends.

The Installing Officer for Lions and Lionesses was Lion Rod Somerville District MERL Chairman.

The Lion of the Year Award was presented jointly to Lion Fred Smedley for his efforts in raising $60,000 for the Qld.Flood Appeal with the help of Jessica Watson and fellow Lions and Lionesses, and to Lion Ernene Smedley for her work in Public Relations and arranging Guest Speakers.

Members of the Lions Club of Mooloolaba are very proud of their achievements over the last 12 months with Lion Dean Farrow as President.

During the year the Club won the Project of the Month award for the presentation of and Accuvein machine to the Nambour Hospital Accident and Emergency ward.

Our Club was also presented with the prestigious International "Beacon of Hope" Award for our efforts in raising $60,000 for the Flood victims in our District 201Q4.

Other recipients include the AGL Rescue Helicopter, Katie Rose Cottage, Bloomhill Cancer, Local Ambulance and St.Johns Ambulance, Driver Training through local schools, Street Angels, Frangipani Dreams,Youth of the Year Competition and Hearing Dogs and Sight Dogs.

The Total sum of Donations back to the Community in the past year exceeded $152,000.Our main Fundraising is by our management and running of the Fishermans Road Sunday Markets. In the 12 year period that the Markets have been running, we have donated over ONE MILLION Dollars ($1,000,000 ) back to the Community.

Our Club is not all work, we hold several social functions throughout the year.

The Clubs involvement in the NAB Youth of the Year Quest continued with a local contestant making it through to the State Finals.

Lions is a Community Service Club and we welcome new Members.

You are never too young or too old to enjoy Lions.
