The Mountain Grove Lion's Club is committed to helping children with eye problems by providing eye exams and eyeglasses. In 2011, the club assisted ten children with eye exams and eyeglasses. The cost for the exam and eyeglasses averages around $200 per child. The club also was instrumental in setting up a fund at the elementary school to purchase clothing and other items for needy children. Approximately $2,200 has been donated by people in the community. The Mountain Grove Crisis Center and Post Office donated sixteen coats and jackets to the project. Each Lion club is responsible for providing the funds for local projects. In 2011, the club was able to raise over $3,000 to fund the community projects.
In 2012, the club will raffle off one-half of a side of beef on April 30th. Tickets are now available from any Mountain Grove Lions Club member. Tickets are $3 each or two tickets for $5. Only 1,000 tickets are available for this raffle. Questions and other information regarding the raffle can be obtained by sending an email to klewis001@centurytel.net.
