WHAT IT MEANS TO BELONG TO A LION'S CLUB

The motto of all Lions Clubs is “WE SERVE”  Each club decides where  and how they will serve.

We are ordinary people who come from all walks of life. We might have any type of job, career or may even be retired.

We join together in fellowship to serve humanity without thought to race, creed, nationality, religion or politics. Lions are people just like YOU.  You can make a difference in your region and the world.

Please consider joining us to help make a positive and lasting partnership in your community.

Testimonials :

I joined North Oshawa Lions Club shortly after I retired . I had never been part of a service organization before and found that it filled a void in my life and as a result I met many like-minded people who were eager to donate their time and energy to a good cause. I served as treasurer for 7 rewarding years.

Lion George

I joined the North Oshawa Lions club because I enjoy working with and meeting like-minded individuals that believe in giving back to the community.  Volunteering my time to help others has always been part of my life.

Activities:

Our Lions Club provides the Board of Directors  for a charitable foundation, The Murray McKinnon Foundation. M.M.F. operates three  Young Offender Detention Homes and a Drop in Centre  for the Ontario Provincial Government.

We also provide support to many groups in the area such as Big Brothers/Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of Durham, Simcoe Hall Settlement House Christmas Fund, Grandview Children's Treatment Centre and the Salvation Army Christmas Fund to name a few, in addition to assisting individuals with special needs.

An official Lions Clubs International Eyeglass Recycling Program provides recycled eyewear free of charge to people in developing countries. Our club has helped collect eye glasses for this program for many years, sending them off to our Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre.

We participate in the District A 16 Pull Tabs for Pups collecting pull tabs in support of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Also like most of the Lions in our District we support our Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Foundation. This is a Lions District 16 project located on about 100 acres near Kirkfield, Ontario, which the Foundation owns and maintains. Camp Kirk which is a camp for children with learning disabilities is operated during the summer season on this property by the "Friends of the Learning Disabled".

LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA DOG GUIDES

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a national charitable foundation that was created by the Lions of Canada. Its mission is to assist Canadians with a medical or physical disability by providing them Dog Guides at no cost.

Since 1983, Lions Foundation of Canada has been providing specially trained Dog Guides to men, women and children from coast to coast. In addition to training Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually impaired, Dog Guides are also trained to meet the needs of Canadians with hearing, medical and physical disabilities, epilepsy, autism and type 1 diabetes.

All Dog Guides and required training, including transportation and accommodation, are provided at no cost to qualified applicants. It costs approximately $35,000 per dog to raise and train.
The Lions Foundation does not receive any government funding and relies on the support of fundraising events like the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides.
