Officer Reports

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes were distributed. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Raj, seconded by Cheryl and approved unanimously.

Committee Reports

Holiday Party: Melinda reported that we brought in $1,900 with a net of $900 after expenses and 70 people attended. It was a great success and Scott was an excellent auctioneer. A truck full of paper goods was also donated to the Hinsdale Food Pantry as a result. Heather also reported that the Toy Drive was a success with many children enjoying a better holiday as a result of our efforts.

Tree Planting: Heather is continuing to research trees. We can either work with the people who maintain the grounds at LCI and purchase a tree through them, which is more costly, but will be guaranteed, or we can search out other avenues. The Elm Research Institute has developed a disease-resisted elm that could be a good option. We could plant multiple trees, with one being cosponsored with the Windy City Lions, or we could strike it on our own. Raj also knows of a company that provides low-cost seedlings to school children to plant for Earth Day. We’ll investigate doing this jointly with Butler Elementary students and/or the SASED Leos. Kelly will follow up with the Leos to find out if they’re interested. It would cost $94.50 for 50 kids to plant trees. Raj motioned to approve a cost of up to $1,000 for tree-planting efforts. It was seconded by Fran and passed unanimously.

Ice Cream Social: Pat talked about sponsoring an Ice Cream Social at the senior living facility again this year. Raj made a motion to approve a $650 donation for the activity. It was seconded by Kelly and passed unanimously.

Other Business

Sight and Sound: Melinda said the Sight and Sound raffle tickets are now available. This Lions of Illinois Foundation fundraiser is an annual event with the funds and ticket stubs due April 13.

Hinsdale Food Pantry: Melinda shared the photos and information of the people we helped for the holidays. The next mobile food pantry distribution date in Jan. 25 at 4:30 p.m.

Peace Poster: Our pick got an honorable mention on the district-wide level. Raj will go to Butler Elementary this month to return the poster, which will be covered by the Doings newspaper.

Twinning Project: Raj has found out that there is a school for girls we can assist through our twinning relationship. A proposal will be submitted at the next meeting.

Also, representatives of the DuPage PADS will join us in February.

Respectfully Submitted,

Kelly Janowski, Secretary, 2011-2012
