Winfield Fire Department Carnival:

The club responded again with their usual enthusiasm and dedication to man the food booth and raffle table at the 2012 Winfield Fire Department Carnival from July 9th to July 14th. 20 members worked the food booth with 516 man-hours. 140 lbs of chicken livers and 50 lbs of gizzards were fried. A special thank you is extended to the wives who worked that week: Carol Wroten, Barbara Robinson, Ruth Bennett, Sandy Hudsbeth, Joyce Davis and Sandy Wean. Gross sales totaled approximately $20,200 for the week. 7 members also manned the raffle table with 139 man-hours. The handmade quilt which was donated to the club and has a retail value of $900- $1000 brought in approximately $1134.00. The club plans to show their appreciation of the many donated quilts over the years by presenting two gift cards to the quilter. The raffle winners were Chris Jones (tools), Bridget Bopst (quilt) and Doug Smith (tools).

Did You Know?

One of our district's goals in 2011-2012 was to plant 1,750 trees; however, the clubs in our district exceeded the goal by planting over 6,000 trees!

Lions have raised more than US $415,000,000 since 1990 to support the Sightfirst program which has saved the eyesight of millions of people worldwide.

One Shot, One Life: Lions' Measles Initiative - The Gates Foundation is challenging Lions to mobilize US $10 million. To help Lions in this effort, the Gates Foundation is donating US$1 for every US$2 raised by Lions. This is a total matching contribution of US$5 million, the largest single donation in LCIF's history! Together, LCIF and the Gates Foundation will provide a total of US$15 million to fight measles this year. As of the beginning of July 2012, Lions have reached the halfway point in meeting this challenge. Aren't you proud to be a Lion?

Spotlight on our Members:

Our newest members are transfers from the South Carroll Lioness-Lions Club, but two of them are returnees who have their roots in this club: Lion Liz Eitemiller and Lion Viki Peltier. Since their earlier departures, Lion Liz has been traveling the world on cruises with her husband, 1st VDG Kent, and fulfilled her Lionism duties as cabinet secretary twice. She continues to teach the duties of a club secretary at the annual officers training in June for District 22-W. Lion Viki has been blessed with more grandchildren (6 total) and had been devoting her time with Diabetes Awareness activities in her prior clubs. Lion Barbara Brimigion is the third transfer who is currently the Zone Chair and the MD 22 Administrative Assistant. She is also a world traveler who is either planning a trip or taking a trip. These three active Lions are very pleased with the warm welcomes that they have received and are looking forward to many happy years ahead with the club.

Meet our District Governor, Lion Paul Cannada from the Thurmont Lions Club. He will make an official visit to our club on October 8th. All members should try to attend this meeting.
