Meetings

We are a mixed gender Club of thirtysix members. We Chartered in 1983 and initially met at the Waiotemarama Complex but now meet in Omapere - Business Meetings first Thursday at Omapere Fire Station, and Dinner Meetings at the Copthorne Hotel on the 3rd Thursday.

We are an active club and we organise two major Projects annually. The first is the Half Marathon from Rawene to Omapere which in its second year attracted 160 Registrations. Funds raised this year were donated to South Hokianga St John for their new Cadet programme and to Hokianga Health for two Tablets for the use of their Midwives and a Vital Signs Monitor for the Hospital.

The second is 'Security'. Every weekend from Labour Weekend to Easter members are rostered on to 'do security'. They take a two hour shift at the end of Signal Station Rd Omapere at the entrance to the Arai te uru Reserve and provide a secure place for visitors to the area to park their cars so they can take a walk to take in the local natural beauty and return knowing their vehicles have not been broken into, as was happening prior to us taking up this project ten years ago.

Other projects include a Highway Hold Up from which the funds raised support our Scholarship fund presents a Scholaship to a senior student at each Opononi Area School & the Whirinaki Kura to assist with their University studies.

We promote our Youth through the Young Speechmaker and the Young Ambassador Awards.

Our seniors are not forgotten either and we invite them to our annual 'Soup Day' a mid winter outing for them and in early December we host them at our Senior Citizens Lunch, and entertain them for the afternoon. Funds to provide this meal are raised with an Easter and Christmas Raffle.
