The plusoptix camera is used during the exam, the child sits down and looks into the front of the device where blinking lights are shown. The device is held 3 feet away, which is great for youngsters who like their personal space. It is a no touch exam. Next, a bird chirps to capture the attention of young children. In a matter of seconds a photo is taken using infrared light. The photo is then analyzed to determine if their vision is “in range” or “out of range.” If a child is found to be out of range, a small detailed sticker is printed and attached to the child's form. It's information will give the parents doctor a starting point to begin the child’s eye exam. The Orland Park Lions do not recommend any doctor or eye clinic for their service. This is strictly a parental decision. The plusoptix camera is able to detect a variety of vision problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It can also detect unequal vision power (anisometropia), eye misalignment (amblyopia), unequal pupil size (anisocoria), and eye structure problems. Vision Testing Camera supports American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) screening guidelines for early detection of amblyopic risk factors.
