the Canada Day Golf Ball Roll was a success!

Our fire department needs a 'FLIR' - a Forward Looking Infrared system to use on our rescue boat. This will allow them to 'see' thru fog and blowing snow when they are trying to reach stranded people on the ice and waters of Lake Simcoe. The Oro-Medonte Firefighters Association is determined to raise the monies needed, and the Oro District Lions Club has once again stepped up to help.

1,000 golf balls were lovingly hand numbered. For a Toonie ($2.00) people can purchase a numbered ticket corresponding to 'their' golf ball

On July 1st, 2011, 961 golf balls  rolled down the hill on the 11th Line of Oro in the village of Hawkestone. A  funnel of 3" fire hose led the balls to a target board at the bottom with three holes each just big enough to let a single golf ball thru!

.* 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the balls will go to the 'FLIR' and the remaining pot was split as 25% to hole #1, 15% to hole #2, and 10% to hole #3! *

By all accounts everyone had a great time again this year, although some didn't hear about it on time and missed out on getting a ticket. The Lions will continue to try to perfect this event for next year!
