The Ottawa South Lions Club has been serving Canada’s National Capital for over 50 years.  Part of  Multiple District "A", in District A-4, the club was sponsored by the Ottawa Central Lions and chartered on March 21, 1956.  Since that time, Ottawa South has sponsored the establishment of 3 new area clubs:  Cumberland, Nepean, and Ottawa East/Eastview.  Two club members have received Melvin Jones Fellowship awards, and several are life members.

Service Highlights:

Our club has raised and donated over $500,000 to various International, National, and Local Organizations.  Some highlights include:

  • Provided the initial funding ($40,000), design and construction of the race track for the Mooney’s Bay Sports Complex, now operated by the City of Ottawa as the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.  Also, in cooperation with other Ottawa area Lions Clubs, supported the initial formation of the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club, which has since evolved into the most comprehensive program in track and field in all of Canada.
  • Donated $15,000 to the Eye Clinic of the Grace Hospital (now part of the Ottawa Hospital) for a laser eye scanning device
  • Donated an innovative ‘open’ incubator for sick and pre-mature babies to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario
  • Funded and refurbished the Special Needs room at Clifford Bowey Public School to help meet the academic and social needs of students with severe developmental problems
  • Supported foster children in Third World  countires
  • Donate to leader dog and the CNIB, CHEO, the Mission, Shepherds of Good Hope, the Youville Centre, the Cancer Society, the Salvation Army, and the Boys and Girls Club, among others
