The Palmyra Lions Club is a 76 year old civic organization that is a respected part of the Palmyra community. We offer many services to the community which include help for eye doctor appointments and eyeglasses, based on a review process. We lend convalescent equipment to those in need which include wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, canes, potty chairs, shower seats, and other equipment.
We would love to see you at our meetings which are held on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at Funck's Family Restaurant in Palmyra. We are always looking for dedicated members to join our organization and help us serve.
We are best known for fighting blindness – it's part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects – including disaster relief – across many borders.
Lions Work to Improve Sight
Through efforts like these, Lions have gained worldwide recognition for our work to improve sight:
- We recycle glasses at 17 centers worldwide.
- We support Lions Eye Banks, which annually provide quality eye tissue for 30,000 sight-saving surgeries, medical education and eye research.
- We screen the vision of hundreds of thousands of people every year.
- We provide cataract surgeries and other eye care services to those at risk of losing their sight.
- We raise donations through programs like SightFirst and Campaign SightFirst II.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And we accepted. Today, sight programs remain one of our defining causes.
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
