Seeing is Believing...

Over the past few months the members of the Pawtucket Lions Club have provided sight screening for hundreds of individuals in our local community.  We have held screenings at Baldwin Elementary, the Pawtucket YMCA and at the Diabetes Awareness Health Fair sponsored by Blackstone Valley Health.  We gave out almost 100 pairs of reading glasses to adults and have helped individuals receive professional eye exams and prescription glasses.  In 1925, just a year after we were chartered as a Lions Club, Helen Keller spoke at the Lions Club International Convention and challenged Lions to become "Knights of the Blind".  In 2010, the Pawtucket Lions continue to live up to this challenge, 85 years after it was presented.

Our Hope for Haiti drive was a huge success!

Thanks to  everyone who was involved with our "Hope for Haiti" White Cane Weekend that was held at Stop & Shop on Cottage Street on January 23 & 24.  It was a tremendous success thanks to your efforts.  Through the generosity of the people of Pawtucket, the Pawtucket Lions Club were able to present a  $2000 donation to Lions Club International Foundation to be used to aid victims of the Haitian earthquake.

We had four crews collecting funds for Lions Club International Haitian Relief efforts over the weekend and they did a tremendous job.  Thank you, Dan and Bob, Brian and Jim, David and Ray and Randy and John.  It was your winning spirits and willingness to give up your weekend that made this possible.  Special thanks go to the management of Stop & Shop for letting us use their premesis and to Lions District Governor George Areson for being part of the Saturday afternoon crew.

Our most special thanks go to  the citizens of Pawtucket, who gave so generously and were so gracious.  People were thanking us for doing this, the vast majority were extremely supportive of our efforts.  Some people were apologizing for not being able to help and then returning later with donations.  The generosity, warmth and good feeling was overwhelming.
