What a Busy August!
I have attempted to keep everyone informed since we returned from International Convention in Toronto. If you are not getting emails from me, please let me know. We have held the business meeting, approved a new project as part of the Centennial Challenge (Engaging Youth), attended District 21A Kick-off, had a goal setting meeting, and had our social meeting with a presentation from Reta LaBreqcue from Schwan’s Cares and an orientation by the Membership committee. We collected the items for the Engaging Youth project. WOW you are all really Outstanding Wonderful Working Lions! THANK YOU!!! Please see the individual articles on what happened and what is coming up.
I want to wish Lion Joan Williamson a quick recovery from knee replacement surgery. Please keep her in your prayers and if you are cooking, I am sure she and Lion Ralph will be happy for a meal. While she is recovering Director Arlene will be our temporary tail-twister. We have enjoyed having our cub member Brianna with Lion Carol and we will miss her smiling face when she returns to school.
Engaging Children to Help Others
The project decided upon was children collecting cards, puzzles, books, and games for children being cared for at Benevilla (http://www.benevilla.org/) Inter-generational Day Care. Helping out the attendees there was to bring these materials that could be used to increase their awareness by learning new things, enjoying reading and being read to, learning through having fun with others, and getting to know each other at the center.
A committee of four was formed that included Dave Cedarholm, Rachelle Barrett, Arlene Vallon, and Jan Milhizer. We were looking for school children to help us out with our project. We presented our project to Sundance Elementary and Desert Harbor Elementary; both schools are in the Peoria Unified School District. The principals at both schools were very cooperative, let us talk to the students about our project over the intercom, and got our flyers out to the children in their classrooms in time to take them home.
The children did an excellent job of bringing back to their school their donated items that we requested. We gathered up the collected treasures and believe me there are not enough grandiose words we can say about those students, and what a successful project it is/was, and a special thanks to the students!!!

The next meeting will be held at Brother’s Family Restaurant (http://brothersfamilyrestaurant.com/) on Wednesday September 10 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be run by 1st VP Lion Linda Finley. If you are in town please plan to attend.
