SPOT Vision Screening in Local Schools

Our focus is on literacy through vision; for if you can't see, you can't learn.

Our club is currently vision screening children and adults at local schools and health fairs.  Our team of vision screeners can process during a health fair children from 6 months to adults and at a school event the vision team can process about 400 students in less than 4 hours with our two Spot Machines.

Once the student's vision is captured, the Spot Machine, will complete the screening within approximately 10-15 seconds and does not touch, only takes a picture of the inside of the eye through the lens of the eye.

The vision team does not prescribe or give prescriptions, only recommends that a student, child or adult see a vision specialist if the Spot Machine sees a problem during the screening.

To receive more information or to schedule a vision screening at your Peoria school or local event, please contact Lion Rudy Diaz at erdiaz@cox.net or Lion Larry Vine at larry.vine@cox.net

Friends of the Peoria Library

We will have many activities coming up in support of the Peoria Libraries when face to face is again allowed.   Whether it is the lady bug releases or book fairs, our members can be seen assisting where needed.

As one of the sponsors at the Annual November book at the Sunrise Mountain branch we help sort and sell (and buy too).  In addition to physical assistance, the Peoria Sunset Lions Club helps the library by matching up to $250 in donations from the community during this sale.

If you would like to help with our Reading initiative, and would like to volunteer to be a Lion For A Day and help the club in their assigned duties, please contact our Library Chair, Colleen, at mcelroyc@dcspllc.com

Thank you for your consideration.

Should you choose to support the Club financially, currently you can mail checks to our Peoria Sunset Lions Club Foundation, PO Box 326, Peoria, AZ 85380-0326.  We are making bank arrangements to receive your online donations and will have this page updated as soon as completed.

Peoria Elementary School

4th Friday Weekend Food Packs

We bag and deliver to Peoria Elementary, 80 food packs for the 4th Friday weekend to help those children who do not have food to eat over the weekend.

Comments have been relayed to the Club that a lot of these food packs are the only food many children have on the weekend.  Our weekend food packs are packed and compact to fit in a students backpack and contains items for two breakfast, two lunch, two dinner, four snacks and we include two drinks.  The School Nurse then distributes the food packs.

Our Club is proud to be involved in this small way knowing we have provided a student with a little food to eat and they did not have to go hungry the entire weekend until Monday's school breakfast.

Would like to help with this project?  We welcome your assistance, however, due to the current constraints of this project, the best way for you to be able to help us is with your financial support with your tax deductible donations to our Foundation.  Every dollar donated helps tremendously and for a donation of $10 you will help cover the costs of almost three weekend food packs.

To currently help with our Hunger initiative, you can mail checks to our Peoria Sunset Lions Club Foundation; PO Box 326, Peoria, AZ 85380-0326.  If you prefer to do an online transfer, we are making bank arrangements to receive your online donations and will have this page updated as soon as this is completed.
