HISTORY:     

Plainfield Township Lions Club was organized in September 1971 and was officially chartered on January 22, 1972.  We have 22 Lion members and we sponsor Leo Clubs at the Pen Argyl High School and the Wind Gap Middle School with Lion Josephine Buscemi as advisor to both clubs.

 

ACTIVITIES:

Annual White Cane collection in October at K-mart store in Wind Gap

We sponsor a special Christmas Party for needy families in the Pen Argyl Area School District at the Pen Argyl Salvation Army. About 30 children are invited to receive gifts from Santa and Mrs. Claus.  We also donate money to purchase food for needy families for their Christmas meal and participate in packing these meals.

We  participate in the District 14-K Bowl-A-Thon annually in March.

Local families are helped through  Hearing and Sight Conservation Program.

We sponsor 11th grade student(s) to go to the Lion Youth Leadership Seminar at Camp Victory.

Plainfield Township Farmer’s Fair  is held each year the third full week in July at the Farmer’s Fairgrounds on RT 191 in Plainfield Township.  We have a table inside with our RADA products and sell our made in Lancaster PA  Lion's brooms.  We also have Lion displays.

Nazareth Day at the Nazareth Park in July.  We put up a stand to sell USA made brooms and also RADA cutlery.  Brooms and cutlery are also sold all year to help earn money.

Lions Family Picnic is held the 2nd Wednesday in July at the Wind Gap Park pavilion in Wind Gap PA. In addition to our Lion Club members and families, we also invite our Leo members and their families.  At the picnic we honor seniors who have received our scholarships and Eagle Scouts (who received the award during the previous year).

In June we ask our Lion members to bring can goods or other food to both our Meetings.  These are donated to Hope UCC Church food pantry in Wind Gap, PA.

We also invite guest speakers to attend some of our meetings.

We have 3 drop-off boxes for used eye glasses and hearing aides. One N.Robinson Ave in Pen Argyl, Kmart in Wind Gap and Belfast Deli in Plainfield Township.

Leader Dog Program – We actively support this program.

We attend District 14K Convention in April and also Melvin Jones Fellowship Honor luncheon.  Used eye glasses and hearing aids are collected and donated at the convention each year.
