CHALLENGING TIMES

The Portmarnock Lions Club was formed in 2004. We are part

of an international organisation with 1.3 million members in

205 countries, working to give something back to our

communities. It is a global service network that works on an

international scale helping for example with disaster relief in

places as far afield as New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina

and in Australia on relief efforts for families who have lost their

homes and loved ones in the fires. The Financial Times has

ranked Lions Clubs International Foundation the “best among

non-government organisations worldwide with which to work”.

However the primary concern of a Lions Club is to meet the

needs of its local community. We hold fund raisers throughout

the year including our annual Christmas Appeal at Dunnes

Stores. Those funds go directly back to this community. Your

generosity has been inspiring and we thank you. Working

together we can accomplish far more than would be possible as

individuals and we are always on the look out for new members.

Here in Portmarnock we have financed the installation of a

project with teachers’ support which provides high quality

Alcohol and Drug Education for students of Portmarnock

Community School and have also, through the years, provided practical

assistance to individuals and families in the strictest of

confidence.

We are now living in challenging times with the downturn in the

economy and many families in Portmarnock are struggling with

unemployment and all the difficulties that come with that. Be

assured that the Portmarnock Lions Club will continue to serve

the needs of the people of Portmarnock to the best of our

abilities.
