RICARDO VAN DER WALT - RECEIVES "FERRARI" WHEELCHAIR (2010)

Ricardo is a 2 year old, bright, full of life, enthusiastic little boy born with Spinal Bifida. He is bound to a wheelchair and has straps around his body to prevent him from falling out.

Sone' is a stay at home as Ricardo needs 24hr care. A creche' will only take him from 3 years old.

Our Club took the project on to supply Ricardo with a Swift Rigid Frame Custom Built Paediatric Wheelchair & Evolution Deep Rigid Back Support Cushion (Imported). Fastpulse Trading is the only company that is able to manufacture this wheelchair for Ricardo.

On the 13th November 2011 we arrived at Ardene (Granny’s Home) at 10:00 for the handover of the Wheelchair. Carin & Marista provided the lovely platters & drinks for this special occasion.

The new wheelchair was brought in by Marista. As soon as Ricardo saw the chair he wanted to get in and ride!

Marista strapped Ricardo into his new chair showing his mom and dad how to strap him in, assemble and disassemble the chair when transporting, taking off the wheels, how to adjust the safety straps, and much more. We were all very amazed at how light the wheelchair was.

Marista’s husband is a paraplegic and the light weight, adjustable design for Ricardo’s wheelchair was his.

After MANY photographs Lion Bridgitte Fraser formally handed the wheelchair over to the family, which was a very emotional moment for all. Ricardo was riding round the area where we all were and finally started to fall asleep in the chair. When granny wanted to take him out he started crying. So there he sat, little head tipped over – sleeping.

The entire family gave our Club, along with Fastpulse many, many thanks for assisting them with this incredible task of giving their son & grandson wheels to move in.
