The Redlands Evening Lion Club

Serving the local community for over 40 years

Hello fellow Lions!
August has been a interesting month with many of us on vacation and for those of you who stayed home, some cool summer days.

Last meeting, we had a very inspirational speaker, Janie Derderian, who is thinking of becoming a Redlands Evening Lion! We look forward to having her in our club!

Recently, Donna and Bill Hunter and myself went to the first Redlands Leos Club meeting for this Lions Year. We had a very enjoyable evening as we talked with a bunch of delightful young people.

We spoke to them regarding the need for a student representative from each of the Redlands High Schools. As our luck would have it, Marlie Rettig volunteered to be our student representative for Redlands High School. Sadly, it is the High School who determines who will visit local service clubs, so Marlie can not be ours this year.

In any case, does the name Rettig sound familiar? Well it should as Marlie is Lions Franz Rettig’s granddaughter! (Lions in the Pride - That’s the Redlands Evening Lions Club)! Looks like Lion Tail Twister Bill will be visiting Lion Franz at the next meeting!

A few weeks ago, Donna and Bill Hunter and I got together with the District 4-L5 MERLO team to brain stormed how to get new members in our club. There were several ideas presented from the MERLO Team. Some of these we have tried in the past with little success.

We need new and fresh ideas.
 Redlands Evening Lions Members!

Do YOU have any ideas? Please bring them up at the next meeting. Any suggestion is worth investigating especially if it will keep our club alive and prosper.

In all seriousness, if we fail to attract new members soon, this club has a chance of closing. As your President, that is something I do not want to have happen!

On a positive note, I will be on vacation the month of October, returning in time for our October 23’rd meeting. I am looking forward to cruising up the Rhine river. My journey is from Zurich to Amsterdam.
So as they say in German, zu allen meinen Freunden, Löwen und Leos, shen Sie Sie im October! (to all my Fiends, Lions, Leos, have a great October)!

Yours in the spirit of Lionism
President Robin Westen
