Lions Clubs International

Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief – to serve their community.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. We have 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in more than 206 countries and geographic areas.

Lions have a dynamic history. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled.

The Richmond Host-Tuckahoe Lions Club was chartered in 1922 and was proud to have to have Lion Ben Ruffin serve as Lions Club International President that year.

The Sight Conservation Programs of the Lions are the main focus of our club.

Other examples of projects and supported by the Richmond Host Lions in recent years include:

  • Purchased approximately $10,000 worth of eyeglasses annually for the indigent in Richmond.
  • Recycled over 1,000 pairs of used eyeglasses.
  • Purchased adaptive computer equipment for visually impaired students.
  • Supported the Virginia Association of Workers for the Blind, Burkeville Lodge renovation
  • Worked with Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind Volunteer Council
  • Financially supported Prevent Blindness Virginia and Leader Dogs for the Blind.
  • Supported events for blind citizens, such as Blind Bowling League and Christmas Party for the Blind.

Our very own 2nd VP, Linda Broady-Myers was featured in Boomer Magazine as one of the

    10 who made a difference in 2011.
