River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club was established in 1975 to fulfill the “We Serve” motto of Lions International. For almost 40 years, our members have met that challenge through the joy of fulfillment in our “pay it forward” efforts. Today, about 165 members have fun while serving several of the River Hills / Lake Wylie Lions charities. Our membership is exceptional in that over 90% of us actively participate in the fundraising and volunteer services our Club provides every year.

We collect and recycle hearing aids and eyeglasses. Lions Hearing Aid Recycling enables Lions to provide affordable hearing aids for hard-of-hearing individuals with limited financial resources. Lions and Leos help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children
and adults throughout the world. Our Club collects glasses and hearing aids at the following locations:

  • Sweet Repeats
  • Lake Wylie Library
  • Lake Wylie Assisted Living
  • Walmart Vision Center
  • YMCA Recreation Complex
  • Dr. Poole’s office in Clover

We provide financial and volunteer support to the charities and institutions listed below. We also volunteer in many other ways in our local community. With our KidSight program, Lion volunteers visit schools to screen children for vision problems. Our educational outreach efforts include Elementary and Secondary School Mentoring and Tutorial Services. In addition we support the Roaring Readers free book program at Kinard and Bethany Elementary Schools, the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest (and giving an award and recognition), the South Carolina Summer Youth Exchange, our annual scholarship to a Clover High School senior.
