Meetings

San Jose Host East Valley

Established 1920

We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday night at the Carrow's on Story Road at 6:00 pm for dinner and socializing followed by our meeting at 7:00 pm.

Welcome to the new online home of the SAN JOSE HOST EAST VALLEY LIONS. This club was established in 1920 and has celebrated its 95th anniversary. As always, we want to "keep up with the times," using new technology to reach out to friends, fellow Lions and the community. We hope you will check back often for updates about our new "old" club.

San Jose Host East Valley Lions Board Minutes

March 21, 2017

Carrow's Restaurant, 7:00 pm

The president, Gerry Stasko, called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

The following persons were in attendance: Mary Estaban, Grace Mata, Lore McCoy (guest), Val and Bob Long, Jim McCoy, Joyce Valdez, Marilyn Leonard, Bill and Carla Evans and Gayle Kludt.

The agenda and  February minutes were approved as presented.

After receiving the generous donation from the Castro Valley Lions, it was moved by Joyce and seconded by Grace that we add $350.00 to it  and donate all funds to Sacred Heart for their flood relief program; motion carried.

The president reported on our possible change of meeting location. The club decided that until we can locate a suitable replacement, we continue to meet at Carrow's.

Gayle read the letter she wrote to the Castro Valley club thanking them for their generous donation.

Committee reports: Gerry will finalize our eyeglass donation for the month. 17 pounds of pop tops were delivered to Jan Miller. Val reported that the Leos have adopted a family affected by the recent San Jose floods. They will provide a gift to each family member. Marilyn reported on recent requests for eyeglasses. Although we have received requests, we either did not receive a follow up to these requests or the requests were fulfilled by other agencies.

President Gerry read the nominations for 2016-2017 for the third time. It was moved by Marilyn and seconded by Joyce to approve the slate on a white ballot. Additionally the club approved the addition of Carla as our LCIF chairperson. Motion carried.

Convention signups were done along with ideas for a possible skit  to be performed by the club.

Under old business, Gerry discussed the Lions 100th celebration in Burlingame, Rick Silveira's visitation on the 28th, our DG's potluck party on April 22nd, and our upcoming AJ Robinson event at Liberty Baptist Church on May 20th. Joyce announced she has secured August 5th at 4:00 for our bocce party. Gayle and Marilyn volunteered to help her with this event.

Under new business, May 23rd will be our Sunday Friends work party. Bob brought up supporting our Lions medical effort in the Philippines. Gayle and Grace will work together to make a gift for the Diabetes Luncheon.

Gayle reminded the membership to bring men's, women's and children's socks and underwear to the next meeting, to verify attendance for the DG potluck on April 22nd, our May 18th Jelly Belly trip and our May 20th AJ Robinson event. Most importantly, members need to confirm their attendance at convention because monies are due April 3rd.

Respectfully submitted,
Gayle Kludt
SJHEV Secretary
