We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday night at the Carrow's on Story Road at 6:00 pm for dinner and socializing followed by our meeting at 7:00 pm.

 

Welcome to the new online home of the SAN JOSE HOST EAST VALLEY LIONS. This club was established in 1920 and has celebrated its 95th anniversary. As always, we want to "keep up with the times," using new technology to reach out to friends, fellow Lions and the community. We hope you will check back often for updates about our new "old" club.

BOARD MEETING MINUTES

JUNE 20, 2017

Members in attendance:  Gerry Stasko,, Valerie Long, Marilyn Leonard, Carla Evans, Grace Mata, Mary Esteban, Bob Long, Joyce Valdez and Bill Evans.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Gerry Stasko.

The agenda was approved as submitted.

The minutes for the May board meeting were unavailable.

Treasurer’s report:  $635 has been collected to date for the Melvin Jones award for Manuel Esteban.  Joyce Valdez pledged $50. Carla moved, and Grace seconded, that the club will contribute $315 to complete the award. Motion carried.

Dues are going up at the District. We had been paying $120 per year per member. Joyce moved, Grace seconded, that we increase our annual dues to $125 beginning July 1st. Motion carried.

Marilyn moved, Bob seconded, to provide funds to Grace as needed for the backpack project. Funds will come from the SJHEV Edward Jones Foundation account.  Motion carried.

Carla announced that she is having heart issues, probably due to stress, and will be resigning as treasurer at the end of 2017. She wants to find a replacement and train that person.

Marilyn moved, Grace seconded, to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Leos – Bob is looking for a source for inexpensive backpacks for their emergency training at James Lick with the Leos. They will teach the Leos how to pack emergency water and food for earthquakes, etc.  Bob also reported that a tree fell on The Den and caused a broken water pipe and a $1550.05 water bill. Jim McCoy is supposed to be writing a letter to the Water Company to see if we can get this reduced or eliminated based on our non-profit status. Carla has already paid the bill from the Edward Jones Investment account.

Eye glass requests – No report.

Eye glass collection – No report.

Backpacks – Grace is getting supplies together.

49er tickets – Carla is collecting for the tickets in September.

OLD BUSINESS:

Casa de Fruita trip for the Blind Center has been moved to July 20th.

Scales of Justice – Desserts and Dawgs – June 25th.

June 24th – Memorial service for Lion Bob Cancilleiri from Saratoga Lions.

July 9th – SJHEVL installation dinner – Carla is collecting the money.

July 28th – District 4-C6 installation – Valerie has tickets

August 12th – SJHEVL 2nd Annual Balls and Beer has been moved from August 5th

August 26th – Young Life Banquet, SC Elks Lodge

August 26th – North Valley Luau at the Blind Center

August 12th – Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow – Dawn Haskin

NEW BUSINESS:

Aztecas Soccer team – call for funds.  We are low on funds right now so we elected to pass.

August boat trip – Date to be determined

Possible fundraisers – Mystery dinner, western dance, trivia night

June 27th – we will meet at Carrows – Sunday Friends workshop

In July, we will move to the Denny’s at Capitol and Berryessa on a trial run.

July 18th board meeting location to be determined.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.
