50 YEARS of the LION

The Lions Club of Sayner-Star Lake celebrates 50 years of active community sevice. The first Sayner-Star Lake Lions Club was formed in 1960 in the Village of Sayner, Town of Plum Lake, County of Vilas, State of Wisconsin, Country of the United States of America. The Lions Club of Arbor Vitae was the sponsoring club.

This represents a significant milestone for any community service organization. Lions are passionate about WE SERVE and are dedicated to continuing their work and growing over the next 50 years.

While Lions members have remained true to their commitment of service. The nature of Lions work has changed over the 50 years. This in part because of peoples' changing lifestyles, time commitments and the increased use of technology, as well as the changing nature of community need.

Join us and see how you can be a volunteer Lion, its important.

Lions of 1960 and beyond

Events by the Sayner-Star Lake Lions of 1960 have shown the ever lasting dedication to this day, 2010.

From the records of Past President Lion Richard Brooker Sr, the only surviving charter member, have reveled many charitable projects for the betterment of the Lions community. Mr. Brookers dedication extends beyond his Lionism and through out the community by serving as a town official, Fire Chief, and many other positions of leadership in his Town.

Lions promoted many projects back in the those days. The volunteerism was overwhelming and those chartered members can be proud of what they created to this day.

The fundraisers include - Ice Fishing Jamborees, Ski Races both Down Hill and Cross Country at the once famous Musky Mountain Ski Hill, and a major event in 1962 was the raffling off a land lot on Witches Lake in the town of Plum Lake. Trying doing that today with the evaluation of property compared to the 1960’s.

DNR Fire tower on top of Musky Mountain still active today during fire season

Sayner-Star Lake Charter Lion’s – Walk in Their Shoes

Our Lions come from a variety of occupations, age groups, and interests, all in the interest of promoting community health and prosperity. The world and our community have change since organizing in 1960. Lions of 1960 cut lake ice in the winter, supported Christmas lights for the town, constructed an ice palace, and held fundraisers to support their charities.
