Our September breakfast was a “sell-out”. Thanks to all who helped out and for the hungry folks who supported it. We saw some of you again in October and look forward to seeing you on November 6th for the next breakfast!
Are you a bingo player? Play Lions TV bingo (6-7pm Wednesday nights) from the comfort of home or enjoy an evening out to our Lions Hall on Wednesday and/or Thursday nights. Bingo at the Hall on these two nights start at 7pm.
Just a reminder to the seniors in our community. Come out and have fun at our monthly Seniors Bingo (on October 19) this month. It starts at 7pm and is FREE to play. There is a 50/50 draw and a FREE light lunch is also provided.
The two IWK project fund-raisers have been successful. July 29-31 was the IWK Ball Tournament with 8 teams playing, braving the heavy rains. The championship game was between the Bandits from Barrington and Misfits of Shelburne. The 2 time winning Bandits donated their prize money, second year in a row, to the IWK project. Thanks guys, the children thank you too. Lion Jack Dolliver and the Shelburne Lions thank Dave Burbine and Traditional Country, Shelburne Ship Repair, Ven-Rez, SPN Canada, Labbatts, Tim-br-mart, Vernon D’eons, Tim Hortons and all who helped with the tournament. This event raised almost $3,000.
On Saturday, September 24th was the annual IWK project fund-raiser at the Shelburne Lions Hall. This was a massive, successful event with a BBQ, entertainment and face painting. The bake table sold out and we had over 50 items for our chinese auction. Lion Martin Fudge and the Shelburne Lions thank everyone involved in helping make this event a success: fellow Lions, Ann Keith, Emily and Jessica, Jaimie Cotter, and others for you help and/or support. We also wish to thank all of the businesses and/or individuals that donated items for the chinese auction. We had everything from gift certificates to a lawn/garden hose cart. This event raised almost $1,000; bringing the total raised for the IWK this year to almost $4,000!!
Darts season has started and there are 13 teams. They play at the Lions Hall every Sunday evening at 7pm. We are looking to start up washers as well. Anticipated start date is Wednesday evening, October 12th. For more information on playing washers or to sign up please contact Lion Harold Hart at 875-4498.
Dollars for Doggies is doing well, with $493 raised to date, towards the future purchase of a Dog Guide.
Just a reminder; as we approach the upcoming holiday season or if you are planning a special event - the Shelburne Lions Club Hall is available for bookings: catering, baby showers, weddings, reunions, Xmas parties (book yours now!). Please contact Lion Gloria Drysdale at 875-2816.
Before we let you go.......the planned fund-raiser flea market, dutch auction and bake table for the Emily Fund project has been rescheduled from October 29th to after the new year. Lion Kelly and her helpers raised $61 for the Emily Fund from the BBQ over the Labour Day weekend. Lion Joan Thorburne (and all the Lions) ask for your continued support for the upcoming Emily Fund project. We welcome donations of new or gently used flea market or auction items. These can be arranged for pick up by the Lions or can dropped off at the Lions Club Hall, 188 Elliott St., Shelburne. The Hall phone number is 875-3233. The Emily Fund is a registered charity dedicated to raising money for the Diabetes Clinic of the IWK Children’s Hospital, to purchase insulin pumps for children coping with Type 1 Diabetes.
