Welcome to the Shepshed Lions Club website.  Shepshed Lions are enthusiastically engaged in helping the local community by raising funds for the benefit of deserving people in the local area.  Typically, we help those less fortunate than some, such as the elderly and infirm or people living with disability, and we contribute to other community support organisations.

Beneficiaries have included:

  • Shepshed Guides
  • Shepshed Scouts
  • Church Together Holiday Club
  • the Passion Youth Centre
  • the Changes Group
  • the Shepshed Community Bus
  • Loughborough Sea Cadets
  • St. Winefride's Catholic Primary School
  • INTANDEM
  • the Shepshed Volunteer Bureau
  • Salvation Army
  • Carpenters Arms Food Parcel Scheme

We also prepare and deliver Christmas food hampers to Senior Citizens every year.

We raise our funds in a variety of ways that make us very visible in the town.  While we are about it, we like to bring a bit of good cheer.  For example, we have revived the annual Summer Carnival (see our Club Projects page) and, on the approach to Christmas, Santa can be seen out and about with his sleigh.   In addition, we run activities like Easter Egg raffles and good old 'tin shakes'.  We are constantly impressed by the generosity of the people of Shepshed and this makes all of our efforts worthwhile.

However, it is not all work.  As a club we enjoy monthly social activites that bring the members together.  We gather for meals in the winter and barbecues in the summer; we play skittles, take organised walks and hold occasional quiz nights, amongst other activities.  This reinforces one of the basic principles of Lions International - friendship!

Shepshed Lions is just one of 46,000 clubs around the world that make up Lions International.  The organisation boasts a membership of over 1.3 million - imagine the energy that so many people put into helping their local communities!

Shepshed Lions Club was awarded its Charter in January 1987 and has just celebrated its 26th Anniversary.  The club had an initial membership of 21, of whom four are still serving.  Presently, we have an active membership of 28 and we are keen to increase that number through local recruitment.  Being a member need not involve a heavy commitment.  We give as much time as we feel able within the constraints of our work and home lives.   Most of us were introduced as friends of existing members but anybody who feels that they would like to be involved is welcome to come along without obligation and see what it is all about.

Shepshed Lions holds its meetings on the first Monday of every month at Livio's Restaurant in Hall Croft from 8.00 PM.  Potential new members can attend three meetings before deciding if they want to become involved so there is plenty of opportunity to get to know us before making a commitment.  After that, membership is at the invitation of the club.
