November/December 2009 Newsletter.jpg)
Greetings Fellow Lions –
For our two meetings in the month of November, we will move to the Bowl: Monday, November 9, Social Hour 6:00, Meeting 6:45.
Monday, November 23, Social Hour 6:00, Meeting 6:45.
We will have a program at this meeting. Our very own Butch Jacques will tell us all about his Officiating Years. Well, maybe not all, but knowing Butch, this should be hilarious!
The Christmas party will be Monday, December 14. A signup sheet with all the particulars is being sent along with this Newsletter.
Congratulations to our two new members, Gary Kurtz and Bob Lindquist. Welcome aboard, guys! By the way, did your Sponsors tell you about all the work to be done?
Have you noticed those really nice Sister Bay
Lions Club vests that some of us wear? Well, no need to feel left out – you too can have one! The cost is for this finely tailored custom fit gabardine vest is a mere $36, which our Treasurer will gladly add to your account. To make one of these fine garments yours see Clint Robison – if he gets requests for 10 or more he will place an order. By the way, wearing one of these vests is a good way to not forget your name tag....

Fall Fest went well, although we had to keep the brat stand open through Sunday afternoon in order to sell out – on a good year we sell out on Saturday and don’t have to open Sunday at all. Friday and Saturday crowds were good, but Sunday was sparse compared to previous years. There were several new food vendors this year which diluted the others. Also, disposable income being tight these days people are still very conservative about spending money. Telling people that they needed to have at least one brat in each hand wasn’t nearly as effective this year.
This year’s Lions International Peace Poster theme is “The Power of Peace”. As you are aware, we sponsor the entrants from Gibraltar School in this contest. The winners are: First place, a $100 savings bond and entered into the District contest is Ella Norris, 8th grade. Second place, $75 savings bond, Calla Norris, 6th grade. Third place, $50 savings bond, Arleth Diaz, 6th grade. Congratulations!
Our Club is still looking for candidates for First and Second Vice Presidents. If there were no members qualified to fill these offices, it would be understandable, but this is not true. We have MANY members who would make excellent officers. Some of them just need to step forward.
To those members who receive this Newsletter via US Mail, if you have an email address, please pass it on to any officer or myself so that we can use it for newsletters and other communications. It would save your Club time and ever increasing mailing costs.
Our only planned activity during the month of December is the Christmas party December 14, so there will be no separate December Newsletter. See you at the Christmas party.
Sincerely, Chuck Klima, your Editor
