SUFFOLK SOUTH SHORE LIONS FORM PARTNERSHIP WITH STOP AND SHOP TO FEED THOSE IN NEED
BY PATRICK MITCHELL
On December 3 members of the Suffolk South Shore Lions met with Keith McNamara Manager of the Stop and Shop in East Islip to celebrate a partnership that resulted in the installation of a food cabinet to collect non-perishable foods to feed the hungry. Lion President Camille Argila and Donation Chairperson Charlene Pilipshen worked diligently to bring this project to fruition. This donation center will be available for contributions year round. Members of the Suffolk South Shore Lions will collect and disperse donated non-perishable food items to local outreach food pantries.
The Suffolk South Shore Lions Club has been in existence since 1999 and holds Annual Fundraising events to help those in need with the proceeds going to purchase Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets for families in need. The club’s major fundraiser is an Annual Fashion Show. This year’s show will take place on May 12, 2011 at Villa Lombardi’s. In addition, eyeglass collection is ongoing in several different locations with donations delivered to Lenscrafters. Donated eyeglasses are then shipped to those in need in Third world Countries.
Fundraising monies are utilized to support many worthwhile causes. Annually this active Lions Club provides Scholarship Awards to students in the East Islip, Islip and Connetquot High Schools. Furthermore, monies are donated annually to the Smithtown Guide Dog Foundation, Cleary School for the Deaf, and Vacation Camp for the Blind. The club also sends monthly Care Packages to our troops in Iraq and donates Wash-up Kits to St. Anne’s Church in Brentwood. These kits are distributed to the homeless.
