To date, our club has collected and recycled over 10,000 pairs of eyeglasses. We service 15 locations monthly. A complete list of our drop-off sites can be found under "Eyeglass Recycling Locations".
The Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club helps maintain their community by participating in the Adopt-a-Highway program, through both the Keep Toledo-Lucas County Beautiful program and ODOT. This is done quarterly.
Each year, two graduating high school seniors from Sylvania are chosen from several applicants based on service and an essay to receive a scholarship.
Several times throughout the year, the Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club receives requests from community members for assistance with eyecare. Through the generosity of our members and with the assistance of Sylvania Area Family Services, we are able to quickly assess their need, and confidentially take care of them.
The Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club is very active and friendly with other clubs in our district. We assist with the Toledo Host Lions Club Holiday Party for the Blind in December. We also assisted the Maumee Lions with their Fishing Derby for the Visually Challenged for many years; we have since adopted the project as our own.
The Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club supports Lions International and the Northwest Ohio Eyecare Foundation. We contribute to Pilot Dogs. We also regularly donate food items and hygiene products to Sylvania Area Family Services.
The Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club also supports a LEO Club, a club designed to provide volunteer opportunities for youth aged 12-18 years old in our community.
