History of the Taftville Lions Club
The Taftville Lions Club was organized on June 30, 1998 after being created in “two hours of door to door interviews by PCC Angelo Miceli and PDG Frank DiStefano” Their work resulted in 38 men and women becoming part of the greatest service organization in the world. This club has continued to grow since its inception.
The members enjoy referring to their village as “The Center of the Universe” and each month the members join forces for what has become a very lucrative fund raising event. Their mainstay is the monthly pasta supper, but in addition they also offer a mothers day brunch, and a fall harvest brunch which collectively have provided the bulk of the $40,000 in revenues needed to support both Lion’s charities and local needs.
Each December the townspeople gather at what was a neglected grotto next to a Little League field. A Christmas tree is erected by the Lions and decorated by the children of the town who join others for the carol sing.
All of this occurs during the annual Christmas party. During national holidays, the Taftville Lions join together in a flag project during which time American flags are placed at each intersection of the town. In addition the members created two signs for the town; the first one welcoming all to Taftville and the second asking for the support of their local Boy Scout “Eagle Scout” project rejuvenating a neglected city owned lot into a park.
This club also supports the local school PTO‘s, Fire Department and individual special needs by dedicating proceeds of various pasta suppers to specific causes.
The Taftville Lions have a spirit of community unmatched by many of our other clubs. Their energy is contagious and their future is bright.
