December 2011 Update

Further progress on the Australia Day Event sees most things shaping well. Please start advertising it among your friends by taking the first link below and printing it 6 times. It will give you 18 strips to hand out to your neighbours and friends. The program is in Draft form and things may change a little but if twenty of you do a letter drop to your close friends and neighbours and ask them to tell their friends then we have advertised day to a  potential 2,000 people. A call to collaberate and get the message out there.

Summary Strips

Need a volunteer to liaise with the various people. Peter Sch will assist here with details of contact numbers and persons but on the day need a person to check everything going ok.

  • Need three volunteers to take flyers to Clubs and association s and shopping centres in late January to whip up the enthusiasm  in the community. Each paerson will be given intro sheet and guidelines plus clubs to visit.
  • Flagpole and Tent Erection. Trevor Luff , Ian McKay, Geoff Stattz, and Gary Dun will be co-ordinating this. XXXX Tent and flagpole from Sea Scouts to go up on Wednesday 25 January afternoon. If you have not put up a big tent before well here is your chance.

Updated Australia Day 2011 Report- Post Event

Well it's all over, ...for another year. We have had contact with a number of people across many different clubs and businesses over the last three months. Our thanks to you for your support.

Sharing the outcomes with Lions members and friends that contributed to the success of the day is important. We hope that you can give the organising committee some feedback on what you thought went well and what we could improve on. Good and Bad points are important to make our future events more successful.

The organising committee is planning a wash up meeting in early February.  The important thing is that if each person that reads this notice makes three suggestions each, and receives other comments from other friends and members we will have a strong bases to work from at our wash up meeting. We need your help, please support us. Send you comments to PS and he will combine them and share with you all at a later date. Comments by Friday 4 February please.

Australia Day turned out to be a great day, the weather was fine, the ceremonies went off very well and importantly were very well received by our community. Our entertainment program of Master of Ceremonies, Acoustic vocals, Bush Poet, Noosa Pipe Band, Noosa Chorale, Speeches, Noosa Folk Dancing, Dan and Jack, Andrew Lawson and the mighty Zumba was just what "the doctor ordered". The support from the  Sunshine Coast Council gave us a base to work from and we appreciate this support. We also appreciate the good support work of the Tewnantin Noosa RSL, local businesses, and the tireless work of the volunteer groups. The stalls gave the park a bit of a village fair atmosphere and we can work on the  involvement of groups for future events. The stalls all gave us back positive thoughts and encouragement to invite them for future events.

With the things we did right, we also floundered in some areas and we will work on these for next year.

There was a lot of hard work and I am sure that each of the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club members and supporters has more work to do to finalise things (Clean the Van on Tuesday morning).

We are sure that at our meeting to finalise details of the day and compile the comments from you an action point will be to send a note of thanks to all the people that made Australia Day 2011 a special event. We will do this within the next fortnight.

Thanks again for your efforts for our first project of 2011.

23 December Update on  Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony/ Local Legends

Things are progressing well for the Australia Day Event, we do have more than 50 new citizens, we have 30 nominations for Local Legends, we have entertainers lined up, childrens fun fair, community stalls, and both Rotary and the mighty Lions to prepare food for the masses. All we need is fine weather, a rarity these days- fingers crossed.

What do we need help with?

Roster (Vans and organisation from 9 to 2pm) was passed around at the last Dinner Meeting.  So if you did not attend the meeting but would like to help in some way either with the vans or the organisation of the day please contact Peter 54741297(organisation of the day either pre or on the day, many activities) or Jay Roach 54424991(roster).

Nominations for the Local Legends?

So many of us know the community well, and so it is our turn to think of some great people within the Noosa Area that are Local Legends and to nominate them. Go to link here__> Form to register your nomination either electronically or mail.

Keep in touch with the latest news on your web site and also in the Local Noosa News.

Noosa News is advertising the day in a more concerted way than in previous years and you will have noticed a monthly story in the papers over recent months. This has given us an extra boost.

John Crossley

John Crossley is powering ahead with theorganisation of the  Australian Citizenship Ceremony for 50 people, and he may call on your assistance for some preparation and on the day help. Please assist where you can. Ring John and see if you can help make it a great ceremony. It is a big job for one person so consider where you can lend a hand.

The 2011 LL Selection Committee will judge four categories- Environment, Past Services, Youth, and Community Services. We have over 20 nominations already, but would like more so please consider someone you know who maybe worrthy of a nomination.

Our recent meeting was very positive and a long list of activities and responsibilities have been set. Peter and John need your help with some of these, so please contact them to see what you can do. As a matter of urgency we need some help in posting Flyers at various clubs and centres before Xmas- can you help us (Call John or Peter)

We have the Grant, we have received the cheque to proivide for a big day, so now it is up to us.

The Lions Board fully support this function and I am sure it will be a great day.
