TN Lions Club tree planting progress
December 2011
Our first phase of tree planting has been completed. 60 trees have been planted along the 15th and 16th holes and the trees have taken well to the mulch and soil preparation. The Lions Club members will have to water regularly if no rain falls during the week and this set up for Thursday or Friday for the next four weeks. Stay tuned to emails asking for assistance on this. Well done to our club for planting the trees, following up with a news itenm and also showing keen anticipation for future planting at the club and also at the Noosa Hospital. Click on links for pics

Tree Planting 3
November 2011
Our club has commenced discussions with the Tewantin Noosa Golf Club in an initiative to fulfill part of our International Presidents plan to plant 1 million trees. Three of our club members went with the Golf Club Veterans Captain to look at a possible project site.
The intent would be to plant more than 100 trees in a first project on the 15th Hole (which happens to be the hardest hole on the course- many double and triple bogies here). The hole has a dense coverage of trees half way up the fairway on eastern side, but then is a bit sparse. The Koalas use this corridor to move from the rainforest reserve boundary on the western side of the fairway (right as you look at the picture attached) and the golf club wants to continue the rainforest and dense cover all the way along the left hand side as you look at the picture (red marked area). The area could take more than 100 trees , however the inital planting is a start. The second document attached below (go to link and surf to the doc) shows the tyupe of trees that the club would like us to plant after they had conversations with the council arborists to determine the best types for the area.
Our exploratory party was able to look at a number of other areas where the golf club could want assistance. This could be a nice alignment for the Lions Club and is warmly welcomed by the golf club. Volunteers will be called for as soon as we progress on the area of assistance- 15th Hole.
You maybe aware that Geoff and Carolanne Bowden have spent many hours planting trees on the golf course from decades ago so the Lions through them have a history of tree planting at the club. Ask Geoff and Carolanne and they can tell you some stories of the development of the club not only with planting trees.

Call for members to join U3A Noosa
U3A is an establishment here in Noosa that provides great facilities for friendship, fun and education. They say you cannot change a Tigers Stripes, but you can strengthen the stripes and do it in a fun way at the centre.
U3A invited all of us to a morning tea in April to look at the facilities and see what they can offer us in the way of programs and fun. It was informative and a number of Lions have joined. YOU too can be a member
The newsletter for the first term is attached as a link also and it gives a summary of the programs- take a look , talk to your partners, and sign up for the morning tea and inspection in April.
Clean up Australia Day- 6 March 2011

Combined clubs working to assist with the Flood Relief
Recently most of the TNLC members have been involved in the Flood Relief initiatives started by our own members.
The relief assistance still goes on and on Monday twenty able persons fronted for lifting and loading of white goods, furniture, books, clothing, linen and kitchen utensils at a local warehouse. A truck arrived from ?? and members of the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads, and the Tewantin Noosa and Peregian Springs Lions Clubs enthusiastically packed the truck and sent it on it’s way to Emerald.
It is great to see the combined service clubs working in this way to help our fellow Queenslanders. Another truck will arrive, be packed and sent on it’s way this Friday so the work continues and discussion grows as to how the service clubs can help one another as a combined unit- after all that is what service clubs do!!
Steady Steady
Another truck on its way.

Trevor Luff threw out a challenge last week at the meeting.Frogs are just frogs- are they. If you download the following photos you can make them into a great desktop view. Enjoy the wonder of frogs, they tell us a lot about our environment that we live in.The giant Barred Frog is rare but living in this area, it looks a little like Cane Toad but with shovel nose you should be able to work it out if you find one. Take a look at the next Cane Toad you see - who knows it might be a barred frog.
Just got to the link below and all will be revealed.

Rossco's last supper
The Lions club meeting on 1 June recorded the last meeting from Ross Paine as a club member and Secretary. Ross has done a great job in the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club development and will no doubt be a great asset for the Peregian club which he has now joined. Ross has promised to return to a TN club meeting in future, and will still send the occassional Golf Email story. President Lola warmly thanked Ross for his service and everybody roundly applauded her sentiments. Ross and Lola
A Fishy Story
Rumour has it that one of our officers recently went fishing all day to clear his mind of Lions Matters but to gear himself for the upcoming Lions Year. Of course others worked on the day but that is another matter- he deserved a rest from the den after the wonderful tiling job completed in time and on budget. He fished all day with some success, although the papparazzi photographer has been accused of air brushing the fisherman and stretching the size of the fish with Photoshop and getting the fisheraman to extend arms so it looks really big. It is important that we remember how successful last year's event was, click on Australia Day 2009. but 2010 was just as special with a fantatic Citizenship and Local Legends Ceremony. Our council supported us really well and Danielle Jackson the co-ordinating rep from the council did a great job, and she certainly is a credit to the council.
Former Olympian Brooke Hansen was the MC for the Citizenship Ceremony.
