Youth Exchange 2011

We'd like to thank everyone involved in our Youth Exchange over the summer - it was a great success!

This year, 15 youth were hosted in A2 for the Lions Youth Exchange program. The district sent out 11 youth, 3 of which went to 2 special needs camps - 2 boys from Delhi and Cayuga to Italy, and 1 girl currently from St. Catherines, soon to be from Waterford, to Norway. Airfare for these three youth and their attendants were defrayed by funds raised by Governor Joyce's project. Lion Duane made the travel arrangements and purchased food for the Tillsonburg Helping Hand Food Bank with the credit card "loyalty points" generated

Lion Gaby and Lion Duane, Stephen and Marcus prepared the "Canadian" breakfast at the camp on July 24. Lion Duane helped the participants load their presentations onto a computer for the "International Show" held that afternoon. We were invited to stay to the dinner sponsored by the Garden City Lions that evening, but getting up at 5am and working in the heat had exhausted us. We arrived home around 7pm.

In addition to the above, District A-2 helped out District A-1 who had a number of hosts unable to fulfill their commitment - 4 students from their program were hosted for the first session and one for the second session in A-2. 197 Tillson was a veritable United Nations with Can from Turkey, Arthur from Brazil (first session) and Lior from Israel (second session).
