Sandwiches for schools.

FEEDING HUNGRY KIDS SO THEY CAN LEARN, GROW AND SUCCEED. The Mission of Eat Up Australia and One of the five Lions Global Causes, “Hunger” intertwine, making the “Sandwiches for Kids” a Project the Lions Club of Toowoomba City Inc. could embrace with enthusiasm.

When the Club first became involved with the Project in April of this year we made thirty-seven loaves of bread into sandwiches and delivered them to five schools in the Toowoomba area. These deliveries were/are made by members holding “Blue Cards”. Parents who are experiencing food insecurity are pleased to have this support. The students who require this support range from primary to secondary. In the few months since the Club has become involved with the Project the number of hungry kids and families seeking food support has grown to such an extent that we now make sixty-four loaves of bread into sandwiches and deliver them to six schools in the Toowoomba area.

Since the inception of the Project in 2015 1,400,000 sandwiches have been delivered nationwide. The number of schools supported has grown from twenty in 2015 to six hundred and twenty-one today.

By providing nourishment to disadvantaged students at school the aim is to improve their engagement in the classroom so they can better take advantage of learning opportunities, succeed in education and ultimately, have a brighter future.

The Club members are passionate about being involved with one of the most accessible, tangible and fun volunteer programmes and look forward to the sessions when they are able to contribute in a direct and meaningful way to end hunger in schools.

This Project enables us to enter our hours and the number of people served each month in MyLion under the category of “Hunger” knowing our “Sandwiches for Kids” Project meets the requirements for that Global Cause.
