Yesterday April the 24th several Lions and wives made a visit to Little Harbour, the Children’s Hospice at St. Austell.

The purpose of the visit was to have a tour of the premises and view first hand items purchased with our recent donation, which totalled £22,000.  This project initiated by Lion Keith Wellington was to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Lions Club of Truro in 2021. Lion Keith was the chairman of what was called the 50/50 Appeal, with the initial aim of raising £40,000 to be shared equally between Childrens Hospice SW and Cornwall Hospice Care. Despite the restrictions placed on us by covid the Club still managed to raise a fantastic amount of £44,000.

The excellent tour was given by Amanda Masters CHSW Area Fundraiser for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and Becky Jolliffe who looks after Reception and Admin. It was very informative and sometimes emotional to see first-hand the work carried out at the Hospice and how they care for their patients and families in the most difficult of circumstances.

We saw 6 very comfortable chairs and stools purchased with our donations for each Childs bedroom, purposely for the comfort of a parent when close to their child, day or night. We also purchased 2 Medication Pumps which are essential medical items and replaced their older models. During COVID shutdown we gave an interim donation of £11,000 to assist cash flow when their fund raising was curtailed.

Following the visit Amanda Masters wrote the following comments.

Amanda Masters, Area Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said “On behalf of all of the children and families that we support at Little Harbour I would like to thank Truro Lions for all of their hard work in fundraising and for giving us such a generous donation. We really do rely on the support of the local community to ensure we can keep providing vital care to families so it means so much to us that you are part of that.”

Please pass on our sincere thanks to all the Lions for their continued support, everyone at Little Harbour appreciates it so much 😊

🌈See you at Rainbow Run🌈

Present were Lion President Geoff Kaye and Norma, Lion Keith Wellington, Lion Alan Downie and Lesley, Lion Peter Read and Brenda and Lion Mike Kalis.

For the last two Crystal golf days we had set aside a major part of our funds raised towards our 50/50 Appeal, recognising Truro Lions 50th Anniversary in 2021. This 2-year Appeal began on the 1st of July 2019 and was due to finish on 5thJune 2021 with a Gala Concert in Truro Cathedral. Unfortunately, COVID scuppered those plans, and created havoc with our calendar of planned events, including 2020 Crystal. The Club decided to extend the Appeal for a further year, which enabled us to include Crystal Golf 2021.
The beneficiaries are the well-known local Charities,
Childrens Hospice Southwest and Cornwall Hospice Care.
We are so lucky to have in Cornwall such wonderful Hospice’s, Cornwall Hospice Care’s Mount Edgcumbe at St. Austell, and St. Julia’s at Hayle. Children’s Hospice SW is at Little Harbour, St Austell. Both these Charities have been regularly supported, for many years, by Truro Lions Club.
They will share the Appeal proceeds equally, hence the 50/50, and of course Lions 50th Anniversary. In view of the pandemic affecting all Charities, we decided to give immediate help in March 2020 to these two Charities by giving them £11,000 each from the funds raised.
Our original dream of raising £50,000 in the two years seemed way out of our grasp, especially as our previous best achievement took us 2 years to reach £25,000! Recently we incredibly crashed through the £40,000 barrier.
At our Crystal Golf event which took place last week we presented each Charity further amounts of £11,000 each , which meant that in total each received an amount of £22,000 for the whole 50/50 Campaign. It was ideal to make the presentations at Truro Golf Club as a large amount has been raised through the Crystal Golf since the start of the 50/50, very ably supported by a great representation of the golfers of Truro and surrounding areas.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please see photos taken this week at the Truro markets I.e. Pannier Market and Lemon Street Market in recognition for the significant part played by them ,in enabling us to have a hugely successful Easter Egg Campaign. Without their kind permission of allowing us to be present in the markets we could not have raised fantastic amounts there for Cornwall Air Ambulance .

On Sunday June 26th Truro Lions held their annual Handover at The Alverton Hotel to mark the start of the new Lions Year.  Lions,  their partners, and widows of former Lions, sat down to enjoy a lovely Sunday Lunch

Outgoing President Peter Read in his speech noted that his first Year was affected by Covid , which restricted the Clubs activities, but that the second year took off big time, he thanked all the Lions for their hard work and support and asked for remembrance of the Lions that we have lost in this past two years, Lions Colin Powell, Clive Pearson and Lion David Morgan plus Lion Keith Wellingtons wife Rose who contributed a huge amount of support and fund raising.

Peter then handed over the reins to our new Lion President Geoff Kaye, who in turn passed the Vice President Chain to Lion Richard Moore.

New Lion President Geoff in his speech thanked Peter and Brenda for all their hard but successful work in their 2 Years, and for raising significant sums of money to support charities and local good causes.  and Lion Geoff's wife Norma presented Brenda with a bunch of flowers.

As his first presentation  President Lion Geoff presented  Lion Peter with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award which is given for having fulfilled three terms as President of the Club.

Lion President Geoff then thanked Lion Bill Rudd for encouraging him to join Truro Lions way back in the 1990's when Geoff and Norma were home from abroad for Christmas visiting the Lions Butty Wagon at Truro's late night shopping, the culmination of this being Geoff joining the Lions in 2010 in St Austell where he was President in 2015 and then transferring to Truro Lions and becoming President for this coming year.

Geoff thanked the Alverton for arranging the event for us and serving us with a lovely lunch.  The afternoon culminated in group photos being taken on the terrace and a chance for catching up with old friends.

On the 21st of June Truro Lions visited the base of Cornwall Air Ambulance for a tour and also to present a cheque for £5,000 ,which was the funds raised in our recent Easter Egg fundraiser across 30 locations in and around Truro plus the 2 Truro Markets , Lemon Street and the Pannier on Lemon Quay.

President Peter Read presented the cheque to Tim Bunting the Chief Executive of Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Supporting President Peter and his wife Brenda on the visit were Lions Bill Rudd, Steve Powell, Mick Pawlak and his wife Jenny, Sue Gibbs ,Liz Barnes, Keith Wellington and Richard Mitchell

The air ambulance started in 1987 and Cornwall was the first one in the country.

Today, they had already been out on 10 missions. They were Absolutely  delighted with the Lions £5,000 donation, as they are totally reliant on donations.

Over a thousand runners 🏃‍♀️ took part, children as well as adults, all cheerful, even though they were drenched with water and mud. Smashing day, even the weather was good. Hopefully after an excellent effort by all those who took part, a good sum  has been raised for Cancer Research, a worthwhile charity.

EASTER EGG UPDATE!

Further to our recent Post .

In the middle of March Truro Lions Club started their 2022 Giant Easter Egg campaign in Lemon Street and Pannier Markets plus around 30 locations(mainly Pubs) in Truro and surrounding areas.

This year we chose to support the Cornwall Air Ambulance. We are very proud to announce that after concluding the draws at the Easter Weekend, we have raised a truly magnificent total of £5,000!,

This amount is due to the continued outstanding generosity of the public of Truro and surrounding areas, especially in these very difficult times. We are extremely grateful to all who entered the draws.

We would like to express our appreciation to the management teams of the 2 Truro Markets who allowed us to locate there and sell our lines, and to all the Patrons of the other 30 locations who actively promoted our Giant Eggs with their customers.

The winner of the Egg at Lemon Street Market ,Clare donated her egg to the Womens Refuge and the winner of the Egg at the Pannier Market, Jimmy donated his Egg to Children's Hospice SW.

Finally many thanks to our Lions and Partners who manned our Market locations .

We will be arranging a suitable date soon to present a cheque to the Cornwall Air Ambulance, who do a tremendous job in the county.

--------------------------------------------------

On Saturday 16th of April we made the draw for the Giant Easter Eggs which we have been selling numbers for at Lemon Street Market and Pannier Market in Truro.

The winner at Lemon Street was Claire who is kindly donating her Egg to the Womens Refuge in Truro.

.Appearing in the photos are Lions Mick Pawlak and Julian Collinson together with Truro Town Crier with his wife Carol, and Villa from the Cafe Villa, in Lemon Street market.

The winner at the Pannier Market was Jimmy Jackson who has kindly donated the egg to Children's Hospice SW.

Appearing in the photos are Lions Sue Gibbs and Bob Moore together with the Truro Town Crier Lionel Knight and his wife Carol .

The monies raised for our chosen charity Cornwall Air Ambulance have been truly outstanding. The final total raised for all locations will be published soon.

We would like to thank the general public in Truro and surrounding areas for their wonderful generosity at these two locations and all the other locations where we have had our Easter Eggs.

We also thank the great efforts by all the Patrons who kindly agreed to host our Eggs around the area and for our Lions and Partners who contributed in many different ways in selling numbers and promoting our Eggs.

Finally thank you to the Roach Family and Ecigarus at the Pannier Market for allowing us to sell there and looking after our equipment and to Simon Hendra , Cafe Villa,Rosie at Illustrated Living and Miller Commercial who did likewise at Lemon Street Market.

50/50 Golden Anniversary Appeal

On Saturday the 5th of March a concert was held at Tregony Village Hall starring Johnny Cowling which was to jointly support our 50/50 Golden Anniversary Appeal.

The event, which was organised by Des Mennear, to support Cornwall Hospice Care and Children’s Hospice Southwest. The total raised was £1,700 to be shared equally between the 2 charities, which was a fantastic amount. Truro Lions supported the event and arranged the Raffle.

The Lions Anniversary Appeal was launched to celebrate 50 years of serving the community within Truro and district. The effect of the pandemic was that we had to cancel many events so our original target of £50k seemed out of reach, and so was extended to June 2022. We are therefore extremely pleased that this successful event has taken the total to £40k, and on the completion the final amount will be shared equally by the two local Charities

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UKRAINE

On Saturday the 5th of March the Lions Club of Truro collected a tremendous amount of money to help the Ukraine Disaster Fund. The total raised on Lemon Quay by a small band of Lions was around £1,400, which included our takings from the Used Book Sales. The total we have donated is £2,000 which includes personal donations made to the Club and topped up from Club Charity Funds.

Every penny goes towards the Disaster Fund as we don’t have administration costs.

Our support is mirrored by many other Lions Clubs in the SW District all doing their bit to support Ukraine. Also Lions Clubs in Poland are helping with the refugees at the resettlement centres.

We would like to thank the public of Truro for the wonderfully generous donations

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lovely day at Portscatho Regatta where we made £651 80 on Lions Stall. It was just lovely to have Colin and Hilda Powell there as this is very much their project but now with son Steve at the helm it will be very successful for many years to see come. Sue Gibbs and Liz Barnes enjoyed there first time on the stall and it was great to see President Peter Read and his lovely wife Brenda. Lots of lovely families who were all wonderfully generous and it was great to see their little faces light up when they were lucky enough to win a Lion. It was a wonderful atmosphere at the Regatta today with everyone enjoying the sun and the entertainment. Sue Liz Alan and I finished a very enjoyable but busy day having a drink in the sun at the Pub in Veryan

Truro Lions Paperback Book Appeal

As a Charity Lions raise money for local, national, and international causes, we do this in many ways, one way which many will recall is via our Lemon Quay Bookstall which we operate throughout the spring to late summer, where we have raised much needed cash over the years for Lions Charities.

Recent lockdowns caused us to dispose of all our book stocks as we were unable to store and keep them in the dry and saleable for what became a prolonged period.  So, we are looking to restock our stall with any unwanted paperback fictional books which you or your friends have accrued over lockdown which we will be able   to sell with all the proceeds going to charity.

On Saturday 7th August 2021 between 9.00am and 3.00pm Truro Lions will be on Lemon Quay in our usual spot - courtesy of Truro City Council solely to collect all unwanted paperbacks, we will of course not miss the opportunity to sell a few as well once we have sorted them. Sorry but we do not want any Hard back Reference or Hardback Fiction books – we will accept some Gardening and Cookery Books as they are popular but the others, we are sorry to say do not sell.

We also plan to be back on Lemon Quay selling Books on Saturdays 04SEP21 and 09OCT21, so come along and support us and get your summer reading sorted.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the Pandemic it has been difficult for the Lions Club of Truro to fulfil our usual service activities around the City and Surrounding Districts. However, some of our Lions and their Partners have found ways to make a valuable contribution to the community.

In early July Lions Liz, Anna, Keith, Steve, Alan C, Alan D ably assisted by Partners and Friends Mary Angela Chris and Lesley were Marshaling at Children’s Hospice SW (Little Harbour) for the big bike ride raising money for CHSW. 100 riders set off from Bristol on Friday July 9th and finished on Sunday the 11th at Little Harbour. Although the weather was dreadful and despite getting wet through to the skin, everyone one was still smiling.

In addition, for several months Lion Mick and his wife Jenny have been volunteering at Stithians Covid Vaccination Centre. Over the last few months, Mick and Jenny together with Lions Liz, Anna and Sue have been delivering food parcels around Truro from the local Methodist Church.

Well done to all!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lions Club of Truro are starting a Project to support our local schools with used laptops to be used for home schooling.

Therefore if you have any laptops you would like to donate to this very worthy cause could you please let us know by sending a reply through the website . Contact Details under the contact us page

Steps will be taken to make sure the laptops will be fully cleaned of current data but if you feel more comfortable you can do your own cleaning before handing them over to us.

Thank you and Best Regards

Truro Lions have been severely restricted with Fund Raising Activities due to the COVID19 Pandemic plus Lions insurance restrictions in the past few months.

However, Lion Alan Downie was not thwarted in his attempts to raise funds for our ongoing 50/50 Appeal dedicated to Cornwall Hospice Care and Childrens Hospice South West.

Using Truro Golf Club's BRS Booking System and great assistance from the Golf Club an event was played on Monday the 28th September involving over 60 Players including 4 Lions who were covered by the Golf Club Insurance as members of the Golf Club. The event raised around a splendid £700 for the 50/50 Appeal

Lion Alan also donated prizes together with a couple from other donors.

A big thank you to Alan, Truro Golf Club and all the Golfers for taking part !

Alan would particularly like to thank  the Seniors of Truro Golf Club for all their support

Truro Lions recently successfully applied to the UK Multiple District Foundation for an Emergency Grant. Full Details as per the attachments below

Lions Club of Truro involving 30 members has made 2 significant donations of £11,000 each to Cornwall Hospice Care and Children’s Hospice South West

March 2021 is LCOT's 50th Anniversary. 50 Years of Service and fund Raising for our local community and also to support Lions International whenever and wherever needed around the world. But our main focus is of course local and in particular Truro and District.

Last year we started our anniversary appeal, titled '50/50' and we set about fundraising in order to gather as much as we can to donate 50% to each of the 2 chosen charities, Children's Hospice SW and Cornwall Hospice Care.

In less than a year we were able, with the phenomenal support of the people of Truro and visitors to collect over £22000. This was the result of various fundraising activities including a garden party, a race night, our Crystal Golf day, a fashion show and lately a most successful Xmas hamper Raffle.

We must emphasise that the generosity of the local people has been beyond the call of duty and on behalf of our Club we would wish to thank them wholeheartedly for supporting Truro Lions.

We had planned to continue our efforts until June 2021 , sadly Co-vid 19 has put a stop to those plans.....for the present. Especially disappointing as we have just launched our Giant Easter Egg Raffle which usually gathers around £3000.00 for good causes. We had also planned concerts and even a VE Day dinner at the Alverton Hotel. However, be sure that when the curfew is lifted Lions Club of Truro will be out there running our events and continuing our efforts as best we can.

The Appeal is planned to end Saturday June 5th 2021, when a Presentation Gala Concert is booked at Truro Cathedral, with Johnny Cowling and several other Cornish performers, compered by Justin Leigh of BBC Spotlight”,

In the knowledge that this catastrophe has hit all charities very hard Lions Club of Truro has decided to go ahead with our donation now; giving them the money when they need it. It is sadly possible that all of our fund raising activity for this year and  next year will be curtailed...but we will continue to serve as best we can.

Before  the broadcast on BBC Radio Cornwalls Laurence Reed show we had the following comments

CHSW

“Thank you for your generous donation of the amazing amount of £11,000, which will certainly help in these uncertain times”

CHC

“This is an amazing thing you are doing and we are so grateful for the donation. Your £11,000 is a much needed gift”

After the broadcast on BBC Radio Cornwalls  Laurence Reed show :

CHSW

“We are so grateful for this amazing donation, it means so much for Laurence Reed to be talking about it in such a positive way”

CHC

“This donation to us means a lot in such difficult times. Thank you.

CHC - OLIVER HOARE , Head of Fundraising said he was delighted to have been asked to join us on the  broadcast.

At the end of last year the village of Fishlake near Doncaster suffered very badly from the floods. Lion Mick Pawlak and his wife Jenny through their own initiative (well done to you Mick and Jenny), decided they would help by providing on behalf of the Club books and torches to help the Fishlake Community .Please see below an extract of an e mail received from them. Our thoughts and best wishes are with the residents as they continue to struggle to return to normality

-------------------------------------------------

Dear Major and Mrs Pawlak

We would like to send you our very warm thanks for the generous gift of books that you sent to Fishlake St. Cuthberts Church following the devastating floods in November last year. They were all so beautifully wrapped and with the appropriate ages on them too! There were 29 children at our Crib service on Christmas Eve and each child was able to take away 4 presents – such has been the generosity of so many people. Please convey our thanks too to the Lions Club of Truro who joined with you in making this donation.

Of the 220 homes in Fishlake approximately 188 have been flooded and most of the remainder have had flood waters in their garden. Only one or two of the homes have dried out sufficiently for the occupants to return and for many folk it will be several months before they can move back in. The Church remains open every day for the provision of hot drinks, a warm seat or chat and the supply of cleaning materials.

The support from people like you have been absolutely overwhelming and has made a huge difference to us here in St Cuthberts and helped us greatly in our service to the local community.

Thank you again.

Ruth

“Thirty-five people aged from 10 to 17 turned up to see what it was all about – some of them travelling several miles by mum’s or dad’s cab to join their friends. The pool table was a big hit and one parent even brought a table football game as a donation”.
“A few photos with the Lions as they handed over an amazing, top-of-the-range sound system complete with lights and karaoke rounded the evening off, it was great,” said Chris.

In Memoriam Lion Ernest Desmond Robinson  'Des'- Truro Lions Club

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing onto higher service, of Lion Des Robinson , at the age of 80, on Friday November 22nd, after a period of illness.

Lion Des had been a member of Truro Lions Club since 1973, he served as President during 1988 to 1989 and lately was given Privileged status due to health reasons.

A knowledgeable man, with a great sense of humour,  always
willing to help out at functions, and especially by towing his small
trailer, will be sadly missed.

Our sympathies and condolences are with his wife Jean and the family and friends

On the 13th September at Truro Golf Club the Lions Club of Truro held their 29th Crystal Golf Day.  The event was to raise funds for our very special 50/50 Appeal for the Cornwall Hospice Care and Children’s Hospice South West, over the next two years culminating in 2021 with the Clubs 50th Anniversary.  Our main sponsor this year was James Miller and Associates, our grateful thanks to them for their generosity.

The 52 teams who took part were blessed with wonderful weather as they set out from 7.30 in the morning until 3.00 pm in the afternoon to do battle with the course which was in great condition. The last team out arrived back in at around 7.30 p.m. and we then proceeded with the prize giving, very ably led by our own M C Lion Keith Wellington, to the winners of the various categories.

Leading up to this point everyone enjoyed delicious food prepared and served by the catering staff of the Golf Club, many thanks to the Golf Club for hosting the event and to all their staff for looking after everyone superbly.

The photographs below show the various winners with their trophy’s presented by Lion President Lesley Clarke, together with shots of some of the teams out on the course.  The photograph of the team dressed in Red sparkly dresses consisting of three men and one lady, namely the Motown Pirates, were sponsored to play in dresses to the tune of £254 which was donated to the Lions 50/50 appeal.

Following the presentations there was an Auction of over 20 items generously donated by companies, sports clubs and individuals.  The Auctioneer was once again our friend Philip Buddell, who again encouraged some very generous bids.  Finally the Raffle was held and prizes distributed to the lucky winners. Many thanks to all who took part

Lion President Lesley Clarke added her personal thanks to all Truro Lions, Partners, Supporters, Sponsors and Golfers who took part and everyone who made our 29th Crystal Golf Day such a huge success, in particular Lion Peter Read and his wife Brenda who had spent many many hours in organising the event. We raised a total of £8,759!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the bench dedication we proceeded to the main stage. The Truro Day committee had unanimously agreed that our dear Colin would be awarded the 2019 Peoples Award. This was presented to his wife Linda posthumously by the Mayor of Truro.

Here is a transcript of the Mayors Speech:

People’s Award

Colin Dunn, a Cornishman by birth, son of a Policeman, joined Nat West Bank after his education at St Austell Grammar School. He served in Branches in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. Whilst “away” he joined the Lions, an International Charity. On returning to Cornwall in 1990, he transferred to Truro Lions Club. He held many senior roles and was President in 1995. He was, deservedly, honoured in 2014 with the Bert Mason Humanitarian Award. The highest UK Lions Award.

He was always committed to helping the disadvantaged in the Community, personally or through other local Charities, such as those involved with homelessness, refuge’s, and health. He excelled with his involvement with families with Special Needs, often building long term relationships with the children and their carers.

He helped organise the Annual Lions Fairground Fun Day in Falmouth, for children and adults with a wide range of difficulties, which for two hours brought into their lives so much joy. Colin was often the last off the dodgems!

He volunteered to take on the role of Lions coordinator for Truro Day since it’s inception. Like many of his Community Roles, he did this with exceptional vigour to help ensure the growth of this vital event, which brings together a wide range of local charities and community groups, which were close to his heart.
A truly committed man determined to make his community a better place.

50th Defibrillator installed by Truro Lions Club in disused telephone box

The Truro Lions Defibrillator Appeal Fund was the chosen Club Project of Lion Keith Wellington, in his Presidential Year 2013/14, with the aim of installing 5 defibrillators in his year. The Club were actually involved with 8 units and in view of the pending orders, agreed to extend the project for another 4 years.

During that time a total of 50 defibrillators have been installed (5 more in the pipeline) including three installed by Camborne Redruth Lions Club and one by Hayle Lions Club, who we advised and secured at an advantageous price from our Cornish Charity partner, the Ronnie Richards Memorial Charity.

More than £65,000 has been raised to make these purchases possible, not all grant aided by the Lions, as some were funded fully by bequests, or private and corporate grants, but all used our advice and secured special deals with the providers.

These defibrillators have been placed in such diverse places as Truro Cathedral, Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro Railway Station, Truro Golf Club and on the toilet wall at Perranporth! Many sporting clubs, pubs, community halls, garages and schools have also benefited from the Appeal.

To celebrate the 50th installation a “grand opening” of the disused telephone box at Point was recently undertaken by the Feock Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Caroline Johnson. In the photograph are Lion Keith, President Lesley Clark and Caroline. This is our fifth installation with the Parish Council, three of which are in disused telephone boxes in villages within their Parish boundaries. In her acceptance speech Caroline praised the Lions for their community work and said the Parish Council was very pleased to have worked closely with Club on this Appeal.

Truro Lions Club are very proud of the success of the Defibrillator Appeal and Lion Keith was able to announce at Point, that two have been used to resuscitate members of the public suffering cardiac arrests, making the project a genuine life saver.

DUNN: Lion Colin Peter BMA

Truro Lions Club

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Lion Colin Dunn, who died suddenly on Thursday 24JAN19. He leaves his wife Linda, daughters Rebecca and Susie, and son Andrew all with families. Lion Colin was a proud husband, father and grandfather to them all.

Lion Colin joined Lions in 1984 and was previously a member of both Weston Super Mare and Taunton Lions before joining Truro in 1990. At various times Colin had been President, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Director, Fundraising Director & Webmaster of Truro Lions.

He was instrumental in accepting involvement in all aspects of Digital Technology for the Administration of the Club, and was responsible for so many of the Club’s activities because he wanted to be involved, he was always available as the extra man, always stepping forward to volunteer when it came to any Club activity.

At our Charter Night in 2015 Lion Colin was honored with the Bert Mason Humanitarian Award (BMA) for his work in the Services of Lions.

Lion Colin will be missed beyond belief by Truro Lions, he was a kind and gentle man whose actions and involvement with all that he did gave inspiration to all who came in contact with him. His support, friendship and camaraderie will be sorely missed by many more than Truro Lions.

Lions of Cornwall helping towards Men's Health

The now most up to date Ultrasound-MRI Fusion for Targeted Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer in the region  launched by the Chestnut Appeal has arrived at Treliske Hospital in Truro. The cost of this equipment was £111,000 and really is state of the art. This device provides precise targeting and the best possible biopsy currently available. Whether for a first biopsy or as a repeat biopsy, patients have a greater peace of mind knowing that the chance of detecting significant prostate cancer is maximised whilst minimising the risk of false negative results.

The Lions Clubs of Callington, St Austell, Truro, Towan Blystra, Roche, Helston, Torpoint & Rame, Looe, Penzance, Fowey River, Hayle and Newquay donated a magnificent amount of £8662.00 towards the Chestnut Appeal earlier this year making the purchase of this equipment all the sooner.
