ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

Held in January each year, when things have quietened down a bit after Christmas.  In 2012 we hosted around 100 senior citizens.   Everyone enjoyed  the songs and humour of  "Twurzel" who entertained us throughout the afternoon.  A first class tea was provided by our ladies. Thank you, also, to St John Ambulance, who supported us on the day.

SWIM MARATHON

Each March we join with the other Lions Clubs in West Cornwall, to stage our Swim Marathon at Carn Brea Leisure Centre. We encourage teams of swimmers to raise sponsorship which is then donated to a deserving cause. Among the lucky recipients in 2011 was St Julias Hospice.

EASTER EGG RAFFLE

This was a new event for the club in 2011. Large Easter eggs were raffled at a variety of pubs and other locations in the City, to raise over £600 for various cancer charities in the area.

PERRANPORTH SPONSORED BEACH WALK

A very pleasant April day on the beach reviving, in 2011, a similar event held the year our club was formed. Funds were raised to support both the Childrens Hospice SW "Little Harbour" appeal and the RNLI. We were pleased to welcome Curtis and Louise Rail, as official starters.

CASTLE TO CASTLE SWIM

Falmouth to St Mawes, in aid of RNLI, held at the end of May.  We helped as marshals and with the logistics the end of the race.  We also provided refreshments using our catering trailer.

ANNUAL LADIES DARTS MARATHON

A most successful event, once again, in 2011. £1,700 was raised for to the local charity "The Way Forward".  £100 each also donated to the Charity of choice of the highest fund raisers and highest scorers. Many thanks to all the ladies who participated and their sponsors.

TRURO GATEWAY CLUB

We have worked closely with this club over the years since it was formed in 1984.  We always look forward to cooking their barbeque, each July, almost as much as the members enjoy eating it!

CHARITY SUMMER FAIR

This year's event, on Lemon Quay on the 20th August 2011, attracted many small charities, joining us to raise much needed funds.  A total of over £1,500 this year.  If your charity wishes to join us next year, with a stall,  please tell our Fund Raising chairman via the "contact us" page.

ROWLANDS FUN FAIR

Each year David Rowland and his staff very kindly donate their time and equipment for a Sunday morning.  Lions Clubs throughout the County arrange for young people, with disabilities, who otherwise would not be able to visit a fun fair, to have enjoy themselves in a safe environment.

CRYSTAL GOLF COMPETITION

Our 21st  annual golf day in September 2011 turned out to be a most successful event, raising over £4,500. "The Way Forward" which supports local children who suffer from Meningitis, was the main beneficiary this year. Many thanks to Truro Golf Club for hosting the event and all  those who participated.

BOOK STALLS ON LEMON QUAY

Held normally on the first Saturday monthly from March to October, when we sell second hand book kindly donated by the public.  Fresh books always needed and welcome. Collections can be arranged.  Please contact any member of the Club.

CUDDLY TOY STALLS

Formerly Teddy Bears, but latterly cuddly Lions, this has been one of our best fund raisers throughout the last 40 years.  For many years the stall has been run by Colin and Hilda Powell and they have become well known at various venues in the Truro and Roseland area.

FAMOUS BACON BUTTIES

We have been selling Bacon Butties on Boscawen Street, at late night shopping evenings, for over 25 years and are always pleased to see friends, both old and new.  Some tell us they only come to Truro late night shopping,  each year so they can have one of our Bacon Butties.  Originally we set up a stall, each week, but about five years ago  we bought and refurbished a catering trailer and now trade from this.  We also trade on Lemon Quay, for the City of Lights Festival and some Sundays leading up to Christmas.

TESCO COLLECTION

By kind permission of Tesco, we collect food one day each year from their generous customers.  This is distributed to those in need over the Christmas period.

CURTIS RAIL

We were delighted to use the proceeds from our 2010 Christmas bacon butties, to provide a trike for this young man who was born with numerous health problems. The trike, which was presented by Father Christmas, has helped him strengthen his legs and let him play, a little more like other children his age.

FATHER CHRISTMAS

We arrange for Father Christmas to visit Chacewater Garden Centre on the week ends leading up to Christmas.  Children look forward to visiting Santa in his grotto to get a present.  Many thanks to proprietor, Duncan, who kindly provides the presents and all cash raised goes to Lions Charities.
