Some things to consider as of Roberts Rules of Order for electronic conduct in lieu of face to face or physically present:  E-mail meetings

"Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming."

Reasons why Mumble is being considered:

  • A possibly better Open Source Solution for meetings than with social media or Skype
  • Primarily Voice Chat, but Internet Relay Chat (text chat) functionality is still available
  • Anticipated ease of use and proof of concept, as well as flexible implementation, and this may have enough application to sell itself
  • We have the option of using an already available public server (using temporary rooms) or hosting our own
  • Visually impared individuals (which is the main objective of Lions) may benefit from the use of the voice as well as the Text to Speech in the chatting function of Mumble

Mumble supports the following Operating Systems (just about everything):

Sample Installation Guide (covers multiple devices).

0.  Install Mumble

  • Generate a certificate (this is optional, but some sites/users use the certificate function)
  • Go through the audio wizard (Push to Talk is preferred) (may not be on mobile devices)

1.  Connect to the Internet (or at least the network where the Mumble site is) using 3G/4G/wifi or hardwired

2.  Find your preferred Mumble site or enter it manually and add to/select from your favorites (everyone who wants to join the same conversation needs to agree on the site used and to use the same one)

3.  Enter a username to join the chat (and password if one is being used)

4.  Find your desired chatroom (and hopefully not going to the wrong room)

Mumble is great! A word from the Online Gaming community that inspired and uses it.

How to Setup your own Mumble Server

Lions International has just announced MyLion, but for right now seems to primarily be a social media app for connecting with other Lions, and IRC chatting.  Apparently guests are also able to make use of app.  Your information may need to be updated with LCI to make sure it can recognize your Lions membership, or you'll remain a guest.  At the current time, it seems to be limited to just iPhone and Android.

Introducing MyLion

Mumble is probably still the way to go for actually conducting meetings online.
