ANNUAL WABENO LIONS PROJECTS AND FUNDRAISERS

TRUMP LAKE FISH-O-REE

Each year the Wabno Lions, along with American Legion post #44, host the annual Trump Lake Fish-O-Ree on the second Saturday of February. We hold raffles and sell food and beverages for our biggest fundraiser of the year.  The success of this event goes a long way in determining how much money that we will have to make our many donations.

WABENO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HONORS BANQUET

In late March or early April, the Wabeno Lions host an honors banquet for outstanding students, grades 9-12, from Waben High School.   Instructors at Wabeno High School choose outstanding students in 10 to 12 different areas of study. Parents and other family members as well as school administration and staff are invited to attend.  The Lions Club provides a meal and certificate for each student. Teachers who have selected the student make a cetificate presentation and explain their reasons for selecting the student. After the presentations, a former Lions Honors Student gives a short talk to the students.

SENIOR CITIZENS BANQUET

Near the end of April or in early May, the Wabeno Lions host their annual Senior Citizens Banquet. Two to three weeks before the banquet, an ad is put in the local papers asking senior citizens to call the club and reserve a spot at the banquet. The club provides a fish fry, beverages, and entertainment for those attending. Deliveries are made to shut-ins in the area. Generally 80 to 120 seniors attend the banquet.

WABENO HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR BANQUET

On the third Wednesday in May, the Wabeno and McCaslin Lions co-sponsor the annual Senior Banquet at Wabeno High School. The clubs provide a meal that is catered into the school to honor the seniors.  Parents and other family members are invited to attend.   After the meal, a former Wabeno High School graduate makes a presentation in the auditorium. After the presentation, service awards are presented to seniors that have demonstrated outstanding service to the community.

DUAL SPORT RALLY

On the third weekend of September, between 150 and 250 Dual Sport motorcycle riders occupy the Fire Fighter Grounds in Wabeno.  On Saturday, the riders travel both off and on road around the Wabeno area.  After the ride, the Wabeno Lions provide a steak dinner and a bar for the riders.  Not only does the Dual Sport group donate generously to the Lions, but it also donates to a number of other groups in Wabeno.  The riders also support the local businesses, helping the local economy.

NU-ROC COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE CHRISTMAS PARTY

In December, the Wabeno Lions make a significant donation to the local nursing home.  This money, along with donations from other organizations, helps to purchase Christmas gifts for the residents.  In early November, two of the Lions shop for up to 50 residents and then wrap the gifts.  The Lions then join the healthcare center in celebrating Christmas at its annual party.  The Lions help serve food, sing carols, and open gifts.  This is one of most rewarding of the club's many activities.
