3 PERMENENT PROJECTS

 

1 ) SURAKSHA PROJECT

Suraksha project is being implemented with the support of Kerala State AIDS Control Society since 2001, The project aims at ensuring the prevention of HIV/AIDS among the female sex workers in Palakkad district.  Currently it covers  female sex workers in the district. It covers Palakkad, Ottappalam, Chittur and Mannarkkad Taluks in the district. Major activities and services provided through this project are:

  • Providing regular medical check up for 1575  female sex workers
  • Motivating  female sex workers to undergo periodical HIV tests to keep away the infection
  • Supporting the HIV prevention activities through condom promotion condom supplied
  • Ensuring the community development activities through a community based organization called “Snehitha”.
  • Behavior Change Communication activities among FSWs to ensure a makeover in their lifestyle
  • Promotion of income generation programmes for providing an alternative income for the FSWs
  • Rest and recreation facilities (Drop In Centre)

 

2) PPTCT PROJECT  (Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission)

The PPTCT programme was started in December 2010 with an induction training programme by the Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services in Coordination with KSACS. The programme is being implemented in six districts viz-a-viz Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Trichur, Kozhikkode and Palakkad. The major objective of PMTCT project is to provide technical as well as emotional support to the infected pregnant women and linking them to various government service centers.

 

3) TB  PROJECT

HIV and TB are interrelated and it should not separated from one another. In this context, trust has initiated TB prevention programmes in collaboration with AXSHYA project a partner of Catholic Health Association of India. The programme is being implemented as part of programmes of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. The programmes conducted are grass root level community meeting and sputum collection and transportation for TB testing.
