The Warren Lions Club extends it's sincere condolences to the family of Lion Chet Munksgard, a member of the club since 1963.

Chester H. Munksgard, 90, of Warren, Pa, died Monday morning, July 4, 2011 at Warren General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 25, 1921 in Warren, Pa, to the late Elmer and Alma Foulkrod Munksgard. He has resided his entire life in Warren. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant. Chet was former owner/operator of Munksgard Garage and Towing and former owner of Munksgard/Logan Service Center, working his entire life. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church and former member of St. Joseph R.C. Church. Chet was a member of the Warren Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree member and he was a former member of their bowling league. Member of the Warren Lions Club, where he was recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, former member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Warren Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 135, Warren Bocce Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Schmatz Munksgard of Warren, Pa, 4 Sons Chester E. Munksgard & wife, Jan, Jon Munksgard & wife, Cindy, Jim Munksgard & companion, Tina Lauffenberg, Dennis M. Munksgard & wife, LouAnn, 2 Stepchildren Barbara Garrett & her fiance, Steve Hoden, James Schmatz & his companion, Sue Van Cise all of Warren, Pa, 15 grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter, 15 greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mary Wenzel Munksgard, 2 Sons Gregory & Jeffrey Munksgard, 1 Brother Jim Munksgard, 1 Sister Dorothy Ruhlman. Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Members of the Warren Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will stand guard during visitation hours. A vigil service will be conducted Thursday at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church with Msgr. John Lucas, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Sheffield/Clarendon V.F.W. Funeral Detail and the U.S. Army Personnel. Those wishing to place memorials may do so through Greg Munksgard Scholarship Fund or the Warren Lions Club.
